5th Gen Airbag Safety Recall - Colorado Recommendations

I really need to get on it regarding the airbag safety recall. I was wondering if anyone in Colorado had a recommendation as to which dealer to go to, or NOT go to - based on a good or bad experience.

From what I've read, some dealers take the whole dash out whereas others do not. I would like this to be as quick and painless as possible, and to not drive away with rattles and noises that weren't there when I drove in to have the work done.

All feedback is greatly appreciated.

I'm in the same boat. Following for feedback.

I DON'T want to go to a dealer for work on my car. However, I DO want to avoid being impaled by shrapnel. Tough choice there.

Mountain States Toyota in Denver did my airbag recall a while back. They actually have mine again today for the fuel pump recall.

I don't usually take it to them for services but for recall/warranty work and the few services Ive had done they do well and better than I expected. They did forget to re-connect my headlights once but it was aftermarket so I cant fault them too much...

Your other options in & around Denver are either of the two Stevenson Toyotas, Groove, Boulder or Arapahoe. I used to go to Arapahoe and they were about the same as Mountain States. I dont think Ive heard any big gripes on here or the CO Toyota Facebook groups regarding any service department in the state which is good news.

Also curious of others opinions in the Denver Area...

I bought my truck at Mtn States, and haven't had any issue with them, but I rarely go in there for anything. Did they have to pull your entire dash out? How long were you there? On another note, what years are affected by this fuel pump recall. This is the first I heard about it. A quick google search shows that it's been known for a while, but I didn't see if it went back far enough to effect my 2011. Thx

I believe they did pull the entire dash. It doesn't make any noises and seems to be as good as from the factory from what I can tell. They did mine in an afternoon with some other minor services. I would give them a call if you're considering using them to check timing and parts availability. I should have mentioned that getting my appointment for the fuel pump took me three weeks so it will probably be similar for you.

Youre clear of the fuel pump recall, Its only some of the 2014 & 15 models.

Autonation Toyota in Centennial did my airbag. They were friendly about it and didn't try to sell me a bunch of extras. In & out in a day. No extra squeaks or rattles...

Wouldn't suggest them for anything not free though, their prices are through the roof.

Update

I wanted to thank those of you that responded. I figured I'd provide an update (post recall). I had the work done at Mtn States on 10/21. It took about two weeks from when I called in to when they had a time slot.

I arrived for a 9 AM appt for just the recall. I declined the multitude of suggested work they continually texted me while I waited. The work was complete at 11 AM.

The only issue I can confirm is that they chipped the dash trim by the climate control knobs. The service manager offered to order a new one, but: A) I live 1.75 hours from there, B) I don't want the dealer taking anything else apart on my vehicle, and C) despite the fact that I like to keep my vehicle pristine inside and out - I no longer can because the kids have destroyed it (so I can live with the minor issue).

I took before and after photos (good suggestions found on this forum). I looked everything over the day before. I really didn't (and still don't) know which exact air bag(s) they replaced. But I feel like where my dash and center console meet, there might be clips broken because there is some play. Also, there is a knee airbag below the glove box which feels soft to the touch, and lastly the black plastic (above the passenger feet area) seems looser than I remember. But these three issues I cannot confirm because I'm not sure if they were like this before going in. And I don't know anyone else with a T4R to compare.

But overall, I think they did a good job. Don't think I'm complaining. I'm just trying to give others an idea of what to expect.

Thanks again
