If you search “Baxter” you full see a write up by another member, but here’s a quick shot of my finished product. I just did my first oil change since moving the filter and I was very happy about it.

Doesn't solve OP's problem but for the several of you who complained about the drain in the filter housing... just leave that plug in there. Take off the entire housing to drain the filter and don't worry about the plug and plug gasket. Saves a ton of time and really isn't significantly more messy.
If you then add a skid plate with a filter access hole you economize a good bit of time and it really makes the whole process substantially easier.

I'll assume you're able to get it almost to the top by hand and then the "1/8" finishes it off.
It amazes me that some people(especially the idiots at the dealerships) do not realize this plastic(or metal version) can only go up so far and it's done. Not like the spin-on types where it's possible to keep turning and turning depending on your strength and determination.
If you are paying attention, your eyes and the resistance you'll feel once at top will tell you when to stop turning.

Free to a good home. This worked great for 65k miles but since I’ve relocated and changed to a spin on filter, have no use for it. Let me know if someone wants it and I’ll send it out.

Thanks. The location of your mount turns it to an inverted filter. What happens when you unscrew that filter; where does the oil go?
Thanks,

Good question. The mount has a trough that catches the oil from the filter when unscrewed. It’s a very intuitive design. My first oil change with this setup resulted in not one drip of oil. Imagine that!

I'm in the same boat. The oil filter housing will turn, but I can't get the metal plug out. How did you get it removed? Thx.

I was able to hit the wrench with my hand sharply and that action broke the filter housing drain plug free. When I just tried to unscrew it the filter housing unscrewed.

This looks fantastic!
Is this the product you used? If so, does it come with the converter and hoses/fittings?

Get a large channel lock pliers or a plumber’s pipe wrench. Engulf that plastic housing high up the best you can, and unscrew it by pulling on the wrench slowly with constant force. No sudden movements. You may need additional leverage with a length of pipe over the handle of the wrench. In addition to being cranked on too tight the rubber gasket was probably not lubed before installation and it binds.

This is what I had to do with my wife's Sienna, and I haven't had any dealer oil changes since the first one. I think I'm probably in the minority here in that I actually like the bottom mounted cartridge oil filters. It's easy to prefill and really not hard to work with (so long as it's not over tightened). I'm guessing the dealer techs use air tools on them for some reason. It only takes a few seconds to do it correctly though. Just oil the o-rings and make sure they are in the right place, and it goes together pretty much by hand. Snug with a 3/8 ratchet and you're set.

The issue is getting beaten to death, but I used the MeefZah Method for my last oil change and it worked. After loosening the filter housing I wrapped it in a plastic bag to catch any oil spillage.
Another tip for using the metal housing is cleaning the threads on the engine and the housing itself of all oil. But oil the gasket (only) before screwing the filter on the engine. If you have left any oil on the threads it will work itself out and onto the housing and you’ll think you have a leaking housing or bad gasket. Some people have seen this seeping oil and figured they had a faulty housing, so they switched back to the plastic one.
I didn’t clean the threads well enough after my last oil change and saw this happening. I left the skids off and it took three days of wiping it down after driving for all the 0W-20 to work it’s way out of the threads. I think this does not happen with the plastic housing because the lip of that housing deforms a little and snugs right up to the engine, providing a secondary seal against oil leakage.

Locking Grip Oil Filter Remover Wrench Tool Vise VICE Holding GRIPPING Pliers
Held it with the filter wrench in the link and a ratchet wrench. (To lazy to take pics at the moment).
