I lol'ed. Can't be better mpg if you have to be full throttle full time.

Toyota finally removed the computer downtuning trickery of the motor. You now have access to all 450hp/720ft#torque the V6 was capable of all along. Oh, and they also turned on the double active oil filtration system, so no more oil changes. WINNING!

I don't think one of those ever left the factory in 4x4 form. I looked pretty exhaustively for one. A 2.7 4cyl with an aftermarket turbo could have been a pretty solid option I thought. And they had 4.56 diffs, so that was a bonus. But the few they did sell IIRC were only in 2wd.

"Starting at $25,999" was probably the only reason they existed. I'd guess they got worse mileage.

I hear so much talk about the Pedal Commander and how it's a "must-have". I guess it depends if folks do City or Highway driving more often and need to merge quickly?

2wd only and I wouldn't want the off boost lag with a turbo 4.

All it does is open the throttle more aggressively. There's no extra power.

Agreed. I've never owned a Pedal Commander, but as I understand it, all it does is simulate you pushing harder on the accelerator than you really are. Even if you can program different profiles to suit your desires, I can't imagine that I would be $300 happier with one versus stock.

I have one and it does help the laziness built into the software. I don't pretend that it adds power though.

Compared to my 2003 V6 the 2020 feels a little more sluggish off the line, mid range on the rpm it feels a little more responsive, passing and such.

One thing that gave a nice little improvement on the butt dyno was cutting the charcoal filter out of the air box and putting in a K&N. I did that on the 2003 too and it definitely helps.

Just came off a 2017 (wrecked) and got a 2020.

2020 it feels like the transmission shift points have been altered.
Engine ? No extra power... but the cruise control works better.
(Or heck, maybe it was the cruise control that was re-programmed.)

Only way you get power out of that V6 engine is to rev it. (Yup, just like before.)
Need to pass ? Drop down a couple gears and punch it and hold the throttle down.

2020 feels like the new Dunlop tires are better than the older Bridgestones.
Don't know if they are really better off road or in the snow. Maybe find out this winter.

So when you say altered does it feel faster? It does sound like a minor difference after reading through this thread.

Thanks

People also forget the learning function of the transmission control module. A new Runner is still learning.

you want a better overall feel? Stick strictly with 91 octane.. documentation from toyota states the engine will automatically advance timing once sensors detect higher octane fuel and once all the lower octane is flushed out over several tanks.. Since gas has been so affordable and the difference between the 2 octanes are only 20 cents, i've been doing this for several tanks and the driving experience is much improved

The PC alters the trans shift points as a side effect of its action so it kicks down responsively instead of you having to keep pushing deeper and waiting for it to do something. No it doesn't reprogram the shift point, it just ''reads'' the action of the throttle and gives you the feel of a ''normal'' vehicle. I thought it was a gimmick and held out a year.....that was a mistake.
