2020 4Runner V6- Feel any faster than the 2014-2019 model?

I saw a video review on YouTube saying that Toyota did some work to the 2020 4Runner ECU and as a result the V6 felt a bit peppier.

I can't find the video after looking for it again unfortunately but just thought I'd ask on here if anyone has driven both. I'm researching buying new or getting a 2014-2019 used 4Runner so that's why I'm asking. Overall my take on it is that's still the ancient but reliable V6 with the 5 speed manual, so probably not much or any of a difference but you never know until you ask someone that drives both!

Thanks

My '20 ORP feels more sluggish than my '10 TE. And it gets worse gas mileage. And it doesn't look as good. But other than that...

I think the 0-60 time of 7.5 seconds (on average) is unchanged. However, a vehicle can be made to "feel peppier" by changing shift points, etc. So I think we would end up splitting hairs here. The 4Runner's engine and 5 speed automatic transmission are the same, and how they get the vehicle to speed is probably the same. So I wouldn't hope for a substantial change until these mechanicals change.

FWIW, I'm happy with my 4Runner's performance.

It does not matter.....get a 20 and put a Pedal Commander on it. It runs WAY better and if Toyota did anything to the 20, they likely tried to mimic the PC effect.

The 2020 is the same truck as the 2015-2019.

No it doesn't run any better. Throttle pedal response is changed but there is absolutley no tuning done to make the engine "run WAY better".

2014-2020 4Runners all suffer from ECO mode accelerator/throttle response electronic delay. 5th gen 4Runners are inherently more sluggish (compared to 4th gen) because of this induced lag by the accelerator. Somehow, most people on this forum are still acutely unaware of this design 'feature'.

Actually it does ''run'' better.......it gives proportionate throttle response so you can modulate the power more directly. Nobody thinks the PC is adding Horsepower, it is giving access to what IS there in a way that makes it fun to drive. No more "Marshmellow under the Pedal''........

Actually... it “runs” the exact same with or without a pedal commander.

Ask me how i know you don't understand engines.

I'm a Certified ASE Mechanic.....tell Me about it. I have driven both with and without and fully understand how it ''Works''. Point is it alters the power ''Feel'' in a way that makes it fun to drive. The fact it does NOT add power is irrelevant

Can a 2014 or 2016 4Runner’s ECU or PC be updated to how the 2020 runs? I’m sorry if this is a silly question, just don’t know too much about this stuff.

2010 - 2020...same slow. Actually 2010 was slower if you got the 4 banger fail.

With a HikeIt throttle controller I find my 4 Runner is plenty fast enough. Wish I got better gas mileage, but I don't drive enough to worry about it.

OMG. I didn't even know that was a thing. I couldn't imagine a 4 cylinder under the hood of a gen 5. I looked it up. It doesn't look like it was turbo or supercharged at the very least. Yikes.

It was the 2TR from the Tacoma and only offered for one year for those that want better mileage from a brick. They didn't sell so it was dropped. I bet it was pretty pathetic to drive.
