Interested in this. Factory head unit is aggravating. Car manufacturers need to learn they are good at building cars, not entertainment, communications, and navigation systems... Implement a standard (CarPlay and Android Auto) and be done with it already!!!

BTW - Your pics don't seem to work.

Are you having any trouble with screen glare? I swapped out the head unit on my '05 sequoia with a DNX891HD and it's very hard to see during the day if it isn't overcast. I've also tried several of the anti-glare screen protectors... hardly any improvement.

Go to your local sign shop (but not a signs now or signs today, most of them are putz's!), have them do a small sheet of clear static cling, then tell them you want them to laminate it with matte lamination!

Problem solved and you can remove it whenever you like! If its not matte enough for you, nothing will help, as the matte lamination I use (3M matte lamination) is extremely matte-finished!

I'll give it a try, thanks for the suggestion.

The above solution is now released, TO2.
iDatalink - Maestro - Search

There is also a TO1 solution for 2006 - 2013 4Runner but does not have customizable vehicle settings.

Hey @Superjet , I am a novice when it comes to electronics wiring but does this all require a whole lot of splicing of wires or is everything plug and play?

I just went through this (minus the Maestro portion) on my brothers FJ.
No, it's technically plug and play, but you need to be comfortable with soldering the adapters needed for the Factory to the new HU's harness. There's no splicing, you just have to connect the HU's harness to the adapters. It's not "easy" as pure plug and play, but it's not that hard either. I think if the HU comes with a Maestro connection, that portion is plug and play.

Just make sure you have the right adapters or else you'll lose functions like USB, AUX, Steering Wheel Control, Bluetooth, and back up camera.

The FJ didn't have a factory camera, so we did have to do some slicing to get power to the new aftermarket one, but it wasn't difficult. Probably easier than the soldering. We just used a tap for that.

The kenwood harness needs to be wired to the ADS harness, but no wires are spliced into the vehicle, it all plugs into the stock connectors.
The harness also retained the OEM back up camera.

This is bad news for my wallet but great news for me because the OEM stereo has been pissing me off. We all know the factory nav sucks but this locking up and turning on and off is just ridiculous. I went through all that with my 4th gen and now it's the same thing with the 5th gen. I'm not sure I want to give Toyota a shot at fixing it either. Going to have to check this out!

Agreed, I wish I hadn't forked out for entune after seeing this thread.

When I placed my order, I specifically asked that they didn't include entune/nav... but we all know the story. You can't get the refresh without it.

I wasn't happy about that.
