I would have much rathered they gave us auto on/off headlights like every other car I have owned in the last decade.
That said if you are looking for features to justify a 2020 I really like CarPlay and auto cruise control. Both are great for long drives and CarPlay plus Gaia GPS app gives you off road trail maps in your head unit.

I'm looking to get a 2020 SR5 Premium so the push button start, the larger 8 in touchscreen navigation, and CarPlay are features that are useful. I'd basically add those features on later with a stereo navigation update which would be expensive anyway.
Toyota Safety Sense including the headlights come standard on the 2020 4Runners but honestly after reading through this thread as well as doing other research my take on it that is "meh"...

Agreed, I'm the original poster and really just trying to learn about 4Runners again since I'm trying to decide on getting a 2020 or one that's a few years old. My current car is a Mustang so that's pretty far off from a Highlander.

I've been on the internet long enough to laugh at morons. Easily said, you're a guy with a bad life so you try to flex on the internet since your actual life is a dreary one of a plebe. Have a good day!

Ignore the guy. Hes clearly a jealous dummy. And as far as the 2020 Runner, its good. I had a 19 and upgrade. Many differences that make the car more enjoyable on a day to day basis. Interior gauge cluster is different and more modern without the red and blue graphics out of a Matrix. Center information display is larger with better resolution. Auto headlights and auto high beams are nice. Distance controlled cruise is good if you do a lot of long trips. Line warning is just a beep. The head unit is larger and offers Carplay and Android Auto. It is wired, but well worth it. There are usb plugs for back passengers. Climate control is the one from the Limited in some models (not sure which). All the interior changes make for a nice in-car experience as it looks and feels more modern. The And the keyless entry is great. Throw the keys in your pocket and never need them for anything again. Control everything, see fuel level, locks, start vehicle from the app. All in all, worth it if the money isn't an issue.

I’ve had auto high beams in two previous cars (Mazda6 and Golf R) and it seems to work the same on the 4Runner. I haven’t used it much since I usually drive in town with plenty of light but seemed to work ok when I tried it a few times.

Auto high beams are just ok. Work fine most of the time, but I’ve had reflections from big street signs turn off the high beams on a dark road, which is annoying.

My low beam being HID, takes a 1-2 seconds for the light output. Then I see the High beam come on and cycle repeats. Hate it. I stopped using it. I think it may be beneficial to someone who has both LED Lo and Hi Beam.

Wut? Wait. You modified the system using illegal crap and then you say it doesn't work right?

I don't like this feature, and I don't use it. Also I wish the transition from ignition to accessory power and vice versa could be seamless for the sake of phone calls. I don't like the system to have to boot every time I need a blast of ac while parked somewhere and on the phone. I also wish that the car had a hidden key ignition for just in case. That's about it for my wish list on the vehicle. Overall I like the vehicle very much.
