Auto High Beams on 2020 4Runner—Everyone like them or not implemented well?

Hi,

In regards to the Toyota Safety Sense auto high-beams I was just wondering if people found them useful or not?

I’ve seen different things on them with some people liking them and some not. One recurring thing I’ve seen in reviews is that it’s slow to sense a second car, so it’ll stay on high beams too long. However, I’m curious if lots of people see that or if it’s just a few. Also they appear to be more useful for non-city driving from reading on here as well.

I’m debating on a 2020 with all the new features or just get a 2014 or 2016 4Runner used.

Thanks!

I am convinced that 2020 4Runner owners are really just Highlander owners pretending to be men.

Driving at night on interstate highways with high beams on will get you ticket around here.

It is very badly implemented. I upgarded my low beam to HID 35w 65K. I like it. Hi Beam is LED which I saved from my previous vehicle. Individually it works well. when I use the Auto feature, High beam comes on, and the vehicle system thinks reflection is from other vehicle and turns it off to low beam. My low beam being HID, takes a 1-2 seconds for the light output. Then I see the High beam come on and cycle repeats. Hate it. I stopped using it. I think it may be beneficial to someone who has both LED Lo and Hi Beam.

So I ran mine a bunch on a recent road trip I just took to Montana and back from Arizona.

Overall they work decently in rural areas. I did find that they seemed to turn off later than desirable in a lot of cases with oncoming traffic however. Divided highways and 4 lane roads definitely seem to not work as well with them however.

There were some cases where reflective signs definitely confused the sensors also.

Overall I'd say I'd give them something like a "B-" at this point. Probably better than having to turn highs off and on in rural driving, but still need to pay attention to what they are doing.

I've only used all the new "safety" features once on my 2020 TRD Pro. Hated all of them and turned them off or never use them. I trust me for all the safety I need.

I haven't had the opportunity to use it yet but I doubt I will bother. I dislike most automated electronic gadgets. Hell, I barely look at the backup camera...still use mirrors. I do, however, like the adaptive cruise control.

Your jealousy and/or bitterness is palpable. You trying to justify your place in life to yourself and a bunch of strangers on the internet makes me pain for you.

I like them, they work fine on dark desert roads. I've never had them turn on at inappropriate times and can't say that I've noticed them turning off too late, at least no one has flashed me about it so I'm going with that. They're not as fine tuned as the ones in my MB though.

GripTR4...you didn’t “strike a nerve”, you revealed your true colors. And I don’t even own a 4Runner. I don’t even understand your original comment. Because someone bought a 2020, which is the same damn truck as the previous 9 models save for auto headlights, a bigger touchscreen, and some other minor upgrades, you are saying that classifies those people a certain way? Shouldn’t school be starting for you soon, or will you still be at home taking Social Studies remotely in your parents basement?
