Need 4runner pet barrier for cats fast

We are getting our sons cats from LAX and need something to put between the second seat and tailgate so they can be out of their cages. I can only find big dog things and that wont work.

I need it fast. Pleade help.

Get a big Dog. The cats will be happy to remain in a cage.

Buy a couple 5 gal home depot buckets with lids. Air holes in the lid are optional.

Go get a small dog cage and keep them in there the entire trip, they should feel more comfortable in a closed environment

I found a cage thing off Amazon. They will have already been in the cage for a 6 hour flight plus the wait. The drive is like 6 hours so we need to get them out.

I think I'll pass on 5 gallon buckets, for any of my current 12 indoor cats.

Cat cage for sure, never have them free-roaming in a car. The one time I did that, the cat peed, pooped, barfed and some other thing I can't figure out all at once, totally destroying my Mom's new car from the inside. We could never get the smell out and ended up selling it during the winter when it didn't stink as bad.

Correct. Never, ever let cats out in a car. They will be traumatized from the flight and will be much happier in a cat crate.

I feel for you. I had a small dog do that on my passenger side carpeted floor mat, it was ruined and I just tossed it.

This is going to be tricky for the OP. Six hour plus flight and a six hour drive, they’re gonna want to go sometime. Plus they may not be in the best mood or very social to each other. Better keep them comfy in their own carriers. You may want to talk to a vet about sedating them for the duration.

In any case lay down a lot of old rags under that cage, bring a roll or two of paper towels, disposable gloves, and plastic garbage bags for any cleanup. Also a spray bottle of SCOE 10X for odor removal. I use it for cat pee and it really works.

As a previous cat owner and someone who did a 2500 mile drive with one (in my truck with a dog), I third this comment.

Cats should not be loose in a car. They will do much better in a carrier. Biggest thing to do is have a disposable litter box with you that you can take them out one at a time for a bathroom break every few hours.

Sherpa pet carrier is a great recommendation for a cat carrier for one thing and won't break the bank (about $50 a piece).

And oh yeah; I'm so damn happy I no longer own a fricking cat.

Cats are nuts. I wouldn’t ever put them in a car, contained or not🙄

Agree with some of the other posters (except the 5 gallon bucket guy).

Moving the cat from the cage to the back of the truck introduces too many new environments. Keep them in the cage, check on them while driving and make sure they have water.

Better yet - talk to a vet instead of a 4runner forum - you'll get much better advise...

Unlike dogs, cats take time to acclimate to their surroundings. Cats also have a natural instinct to be alert to dangers that might sneak up on them. So they prefer the protection of small, more confined spaces when they feel threatened. While it may sound cruel to keep them confined to the cat carriers they'll be arriving in, the cats will have had more time to adjust to those containers and will feel safer and less stressed if you allow them to remain in them for the trip.
