Sorry to resurrect an older thread; I am a newbie still under the 15 post minimum. I don't plan to do any rock crawling, but I am looking for a vehicle that can take me down some rougher trails (e.g. think
Dedeckera Canyon/Steel Pass Road in Death Valley).
I test drove two new 4 Runners for the first time today: 1) a TRD ORP on 33"s with 3" ProComp 'performance suspension' and 2) a TRD ORP with KDSS. I have been advised elsewhere to avoid purchasing a truck with the dealer add-ons due to the higher mark-up, but I wanted to compare the ride. After driving the lifted vehicle, the one with KDSS did feel much tighter in the turns; however, I imagine some of that was also due to the lower center-of-gravity. Do those driving trucks with KDSS lifted the maximum of 2.0 to 3.0" still notice the feeling of a slight roll in turns?
I will admit that I am a bit overwhelmed by the volume of information out there on this. If I were to lift a non-KDSS truck, what are some aftermarket suspensions, etc. that might be sufficient for the type of use I am considering? Thanks!
