4” Lift w/ KDSS

Following the installation of my 6112/5160 lift on my 2020 ORP w/ KDSS, my front end is sitting at 23.5”—nearly 4” higher than stock.

I know that 4” is more than a KDSS should be lifted and I will be dropping it ASAP. But is it safe to drive in the meantime? I have searched quite a bit but can’t find any explanation as to why 3” is the limit. Is it a performance/comfort issue or a safety issue?

Picture just because:

It’s mainly due to the angle on the cv boots and the fact that you have very limited up travel and it rides horrible. Limiting up travel can cause the shock to separate and break. Happened to a set of bilsteins I ran long ago. Definitely lower it.

It has about 500 miles on it now. I doubt it will settle much more.

Thanks! She’s still a work in progress, but I’m very happy with how it’s shaping up so far. Hopefully dropping it an inch won’t be too noticeable.

What notch did you set the perch to? Standard weight springs or the heavier ones? My 6112's settled about 1/2" avg in a week. I'm on the 3rd perch from the bottom (1.7" lift).

something is wrong. i'm at the top setting and barely have 2.5" of lift. you didn't torque all the bushings down with the wheels off the ground did you?

Sixth perch which is supposed to be 2.7” on KDSS Runners. Also sporting 650# springs which add extra height. I had it done at a reputable shop, but I may take it elsewhere to drop it just to make sure everything was done properly.

In my opinion, it's definitely the springs. If you aren't adding weight up front you could have stuck with the 600 spring rate and would have been fine. The settings for the lift are based on the 600 spring rate. Once you move up to 650 its not the same lift you get since the spring can obviously handle more weight. If it were me, I would just get the necessities of a C4 Fab low profile bumper with light bar and add you a 10,000 lb winch and you will be good If not, then you will definitely have to move the settings on the coilover down. Good luck and save those CV joints.

I agree it’s the springs and the C4 lo pro is absolutely the plan. However, I’m wondering whether it’s safe to drive for a few days until I can get it into the shop, or whether I need to park it.

I think it's ok to drive, however I wouldn't do any more than is necessary. I believe the 3" lift guidance for the front is guided by the CV's and suspension performance rather than the KDSS system. Frankly much over 2.5" lift affects off road performance significantly by limiting down travel unless it's a true long travel set up. The rear suspension is different story altogether.

Honestly I see rigs all the time that must be lifted at least 3-4". They don't seem to be incurring any catastrophic damage.

It’s definitely the springs. I have 6112s on the 2nd to last perch with #650 springs (KDSS) and it sits about 2.5-3” with about 200lbs up front.

Definitely OK to drive for a few days.......I've been at 23.5'' for 50K miles with a lot of trail miles as well. No issues......A little loss of down travel & possibly longer term, more CV/CV boot wear compared to a lower lift
