Wireless Android Auto

I ran across an article online that said was Android 11 that Android Auto will now be wireless on some factory head units. Google has a list of the year make and model of vehicles that will work. The 2020 4Runner is on there. I installed Android 11 beta on my Pixel 4 and have Wi-Fi enabled in the 4Runner but have been unable to get a wireless Android auto connection. Has anyone had any luck with this or know if it is possible.

I don’t believe it’s supported by the head unit, so no, it won’t work. Same holds true for wireless CarPlay.

Google says the 2020 4Runner does support wireless Android auto. It may not work until Android 11 is officially released next month. I'm holding out hope.

Per Toyota, wireless Android Auto or wireless Carplay is not supported on either system. The only wireless function is bluetooth.

Ya you are probably right. However that was written probably a year ago and a couple days ago Google announced with Android 11 more phones and factory headunits will be compatible with wireless Android auto. The car just needs wifi 5hz and the phone needs to be able to run Android 11.

The head unit is not compatible with wireless android auto. The website you posted just list all of the cars that currently offer android auto. If they were capable of wireless android auto then it would be listed with a * to indicate that its capable of it.

Android 11 will just finally add the wireless option to all smartphones that are updated to that software version. Wireless has been available for Samsung and Google phones on Android 10 for a while now.

Really doesn’t matter wtf google says if the car manufacturer says it’s not supported. Also, reading comprehension.

Does anyone have issues with their 2020 and android auto? I have a limited with the JBL system - every time I pause audio and then hit play the system crashes and reboots. It does it using Spotify, Pocket Casts, or Amazon Music (everything i try) I use a Samsung Note 10+ with the latest updates.

I haven't had any issues with Google Play Music or Youtube Music. Although it does crash for some reason it I use MLB.tv to listen to a game.

I'll try spotify out today and see if there is a problem on my end as well with it.

I've been having nothing but problems with AA. I was on 5.6 when the problems started and tried 5.7 too. Ended up downgrading to 5.5 and now it works fine.

System was freezing up, couldn't switch between Waze/Gmaps and Spotify and vice versa. Not reading texts. Just a mess. Uninstalled all the apps and reloaded which didn't fix anything.
