I still have a set of Wildpeaks with 8/32s for any future long distance trips that do not involve more than dirt roads and mild trails.
This is exactly why I think the LT Wildpeak is the better tire for folks running them in the southwest (which is what I had on my 2016). The most incredible thing about that tire was that I literally was on pace to get probably 70K miles out of it if I had wanted when I had it mounted on my 2016 (traded out to my 2020 with around 50K miles on them and they still had something like 8/32 on them).

Yes, the SL saves you a bit of money and is definitely lighter, but I honestly think the LT is worth it for longevity and piece of mind if you don't mind the slightly rougher ride. At least for those of us who actually use these tires in pretty rough stuff as opposed to rolling them to the mall and back in Florida .

It's good to hear from locals running the same terrain. I was concerned about the road noise from the ATZ as my this is my daily and I have a 20ish mile commute on pavement.

I am just hesitant towards Falken in general, I had older version Wildpeaks on my Silverado and they were garbage. They wore so fast it was stupid, even the Goodyears they replaced were better. I know it was a new design but just didn't trust them anymore.
Tires are an investment you have to live with for awhile unless you're willing to throw some money at it.

Not really fair to compare the old Wildpeak with the AT3W. The tires are night and day difference overall.

Falken has really upped it's game in the last 3 to 5 years overall and has some pretty competitive tires in other segments now too. The fact that they used to largely be viewed as a "discount" option and are in the mix with some of the big established manufacturers now shows how far they have come.

I still think quality control is an issue with them, albeit it seems like the latest batches being produced in the US are going pretty well from the chatter on this forum. Only real negative is the construction is heavy as hell (and I'm not convinced there is any advantage to it other than being cheaper for them to manufacture).

No question about it, the LT Wildpeak last WAY longer than the SL version and the SL, albeit strong, is not strong enough for our desert.

For me, once I am out of SL, I want the 3-ply sidewall. My mistake was not to realize that heavy tires would be quite comfy with a stiffer suspension. I would have been more eager to move to both earlier.

But, hey, it is fun to keep learning
