The TJ felt like $23,000 (an estimate in today's money based on my own subjectivity, not a reflection of actual cost back then) of not a whole lot that could go wrong. I especially liked the crank windows. Now a 2 door JL starts at over $28,000, and I get it, it's a Jeep thing, but it's still way overpriced for what it should be. And I know comparing the TJ to the JL is about as much of a stretch as comparing a TJ to a 5th gen, but it is what it is, and even the barest of the bare JL is too complicated for its own good.

I would have been so happy to pay less for no electric driver's seat. It is nice, and it's probably going to last me longer than the levers on my Jeep seats ever did, but I'd rather pay less for a basic yet bulletproof Toyota seat in my 5th gen.

I do have to say, though, I don't think the 5th gen would be quite the same if it didn't have power windows. If you're going to have power windows, at least really own it, and I feel the 4Runner owns it with its extensive control options.
Must take into account I went from a 68 F100 that I've been driving (and still do) for 35 years to my 17 SR5.
So nearly everything on the 4runner is an unnecessary novelty to me. Except 4Lo.

I hate to lol, but lol. Crank windows and radio blanks? Not likely. A lot of what you're after can be had from the aftermarket just use a TRD OR as a base and go from there.

Sales climbed out of a big slump after the 14+ makeover. 2010-2013 averaged 47k, while 2014-2019 averaged 114k per year in sales.
Toyota 4Runner Sales Figures | GCBC
You're gonna have to wait until 22+ for the 6th gen, so why would Toyota invest in big upgrades for a product that is near end of life and selling well? /rhetorical

Toyota isn't going after Wrangler, Bronco, Colorado, etc. with the 4Runner. The 4R is by itself. Don't like it, no problem, go pick up an LC, Jeep, Ford, Chevy of your choosing while sending in letters to Toyota asking for an LC70 or whatever else ya wanna cry about. Money talks, end of the story.

I find it amusing the the TRDP gets 1MPG better than the rest of the lineup. Must be some helium in the tires.

I noticed that when compiling a build of a 2021 ORP, it doesn’t seem possible to add both a moonroof and KDSS. Any thoughts on whether this is by design?

I couldn't wait that long, so I just ordered a Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon with the 2.0 turbo I4 and the ZF 8 speed tranny. The mileage on the highway is mid 20s, and at 295 lb ft it's got more torque than the V6 Jeep or the 4Runner. I also prefer Chrysler's instrumentation. Just thought I'd put that out there as someone who was considering the 4Runner but purchased something else.

PS - the 2021 Rubicon also has a full time 4wd option which I selected (which can also be turned off).

Don't worry about him. Based on his past comments, I suspect he's one of those 12 year old kids commenting on brand-specific Youtube videos, and constantly stating that his dad's truck is the best, and all other brands suck!!!

One day he'll grow up...

Enjoy your Jeep.

That surprised me too. You would think that Yakima roof rack would have cut down the mileage.

Did you test drive both vehicles? What did you think of the new Jeep for highway/daily driving? I've never liked the way Jeeps felt on-road, but I have never driven the latest one.

Love the rugged look of the Jeep BUT the ride on road is sh*t
The reliability and cabin space is sh*t
To spec one out in terms of comparison the 4Runner is roomy smooth and holds its value that is justified with the Jeep
reliability is off the charts next to the Jeep
also my cousin and neighbor both have Jeep rubicons both bought same time as I
They have both Had visit the dealer for water leaked into the cabin to the point of puddles inside the footwell*various lighting issues * trips for squeaks and annoying rattling both have had enough and ordered gx460 for October

I have been a Jeep guy for 20 years. When I started looking at the Gladiator last fall, I had a chance to drive my SIL new 19 Wrangler for two days of long highway travel. When I was done that convinced me to look at something other then Jeep, that’s how I stumbled on the 4Runner. My wife was the deciding factor as she loved the ride of the Toyota better then the Jeep.
So far off road has been comparable to the Wranglers I have owned in the past, however I’m doing mild trails right now and not heavy rock crawling.
So far the 4 Runner has been great although I have a few minor complaints about how easily the interior plastic scratches and some other stuff. Time will tell if I am a multiple 4Runner owner though.

You and me both. Found a 2020 Venture I'm very tempted to make an offer on, but would likely regret not holding out for LED lights in the long run.
