For some reason was hoping that Trail comes only in 4WD even thought I knew it was based on SR5.

Yeah, they tricked me too because I own one of the OG Trail Editions which has standard 4x4 and came with KDSS...

Yeah, but who really cares about how the front looks? It’s just plastic and gets beat up by bugs and rocks after a year or so.

on the fence of trading in the 17 SR5 blacked out with trd pro suspension and skid plate for an army green or cement color 4runner. Would like apple car play and updated led headlights. If I can sell or trade in at 30k plus I'd probably do it

I checked parts.toyota.com and there is no option for 2021 parts yet. It will be interesting to see how much the front LED head lights cost and if they will be an easy swap or if you have to chop into the harness. I would just like to see a side by side comparison of the 2020 to 2021 and see if the new LEDs make a significant difference compared to the halogens.

What I find odd is that unless you get a PRO or Limited the LED lights are only for the low beam. All other models you still get high beam halogen. I don’t get it! I’ve never owned an led vehicle but definitely notice the difference especially in color. To me it would be weird to switch back and forth between high and low and have them be a different tone. I’m looking at 20/21 TRDOR/P. I am curious about the lighting also. At this point in the 5th gens run it would be really nice if it was full led. I believe fogs are led across the board.

If you can get a Lexus V8 for same $ as a 4Runner V6, that would be a no brainer for me! I like to modify what I drive so I would'nt be opposed to changing out some things on a Lexus.

Ah no. No auto back window down. End of discussion.

When configuring a 2021 Venture, LED fogs are an available option for $349. Ugh...

Bowtie? More like a monolith with demonic teeth as seen in a funhouse mirror.
2014+ isn't ideal stock, but at least you can put on the heritage grill. And if you don't like the "TOYOTA" across the front with the heritage grill, there are third party coverups that don't have any lettering or dimples for lettering. And stock isn't demonic to begin with.
Seriously, luxury vehicles have the gaudiest styling. Genesis grills look like honeycombs from hell, and have you seen the emblem on the front of a Benz lately? It's so big it's practically got the proportions of a toddler's toy.

I would like $50k of less tech & luxury and $50k more beef & capability.
Lose the electronic bells & whistles. Stouter axles and suspension components. Long travel. Full skids. Metal bumpers. Real rock sliders. Lockers.
Crank windows, AM-FM radio (optional), no electrical seats.
Bare bones basic & bulletproof.

I remember my old Wrangler TJ. I want a vehicle like that. The current 4Runner is the closest to that these days while also retaining reliability. I know it's a stretch to compare a 2 door TJ with a 5th gen, but I did it. The TJ felt like $23,000 (an estimate in today's money based on my own subjectivity, not a reflection of actual cost back then) of not a whole lot that could go wrong. I especially liked the crank windows. Now a 2 door JL starts at over $28,000, and I get it, it's a Jeep thing, but it's still way overpriced for what it should be. And I know comparing the TJ to the JL is about as much of a stretch as comparing a TJ to a 5th gen, but it is what it is, and even the barest of the bare JL is too complicated for its own good.
I would have been so happy to pay less for no electric driver's seat. It is nice, and it's probably going to last me longer than the levers on my Jeep seats ever did, but I'd rather pay less for a basic yet bulletproof Toyota seat in my 5th gen.
I do have to say, though, I don't think the 5th gen would be quite the same if it didn't have power windows. If you're going to have power windows, at least really own it, and I feel the 4Runner owns it with its extensive control options.
