Damn. Everything changed with the 2021 Bi LEDs…. Maybe I just just go straight to the Gen2’s Morimotos…. From what I’ve seen lately, they look pretty damn good (Gen2’s only) but I’m still unsure if their high beam performance as well.

Thoughts?

I don’t like the Morimoto’s, but it’s aesthetics and subjective. I prefer to keep as close to OEM as possible, and getting creative behind the facade to make it work.
If you’re happy with the OEM performance and just want to add your DRL bulbs to high beam function, look at what is powering the shutter for the bi-LED module. You may be able to build a split harness to power the 9005 bulb too. For mine, it goes 9005 from the vehicle to a 9005/9005-koito split which then goes to the drl and projector. In theory because my signal power is constant for the DRL, the projector shutter solenoid is always powered, but because the projector is off it’s not noticeable. Likely this will lead to premature failure of the projector solenoid, but you can get an IS bi-xenon projector for like $40 on eBay.
I can PM you pictures of the wiring if you want. Everything is tucked away so it’s pretty stealth under the hood.

Nice, I just purchased my headlights from them as well. Lightwerkz has been in the lighting game for awhile, always with good reputation. I've known about them for a few years now from other car and lighting forums.

3rd Gen HID vs LED vs Halogen H11 projector headlights | Page 253 | Tacoma World

Turns out the OEM LED headlights in the newer 4Runner's perform spectacularly, especially compared to those running high output halogen bulbs like the H9 upgrade.

The Bi-LED highs suck vs. the halogen DRL highs?

Check out post #5054

The factory halogen bulb gets tested to another higher output halogen bulb putting out over 3000 Lux. Only downer is the bulbs are getting harder to come by, but there is rumor that another manufacturer may be coming out with a similar design.

Note: on the TRD Pro and Limited models with the Bi-LED headlights, the halogen high beam has been deactivated from the factory. It ONLY serves as a DRL and does not work as a high beam.

That is correct for the latest models.

We'll see if we can manage to get a current headlight over to him to test

wish I never got the 2022 ORP. The headlights. They SUCK. BIG TIME!. There are black boxes that appear in the top of the light cutoff and it is very distracting. Almost a safety issue.

It bugged me for the first couple of days but now I don't even really notice it. Curious is the DRL now LED? I was shocked when I bought my 21 Limited that the DRLs were still halogen.

DRLs are all halogen. Highs are LED for TRD Pro and Limited. Doesn’t matter what trim though, you always get halogen DRLs
