I am running the Bi-LED high beams with the halogen high beam by tapping off the power of the halogen high beam connected to a relay which powers the LED actuator blue wire. you can connect the blue wire directly to the high beam power if you turn off the DRL function.

Really happy with the output of these LED headlamps. Easy mod. 10/10 would recommend.

What's up guys! Been following this thread for what seems like forever and finally decided to join up and knock this out. I have a 2019, and recently picked up some 2021 pro bi leds. My question for uh0h50 is, after switching the red and black wires over to the previous plug, that was it? So by taping off the blue wire, the new running light will automatically be converted over to the new high beam? I don't really care if the high comes from the led or the reflector, just wondering if the current wiring will switch that over for me or if you had to switch something else to get that high beam to work in the reflector bowl.. I appreciate anything you got man, thanks guys!

Correct. Swap the (white) plugs from the old headlamps onto your new LED headlamps and reverse the red and black wires. Voila, you have functioning LED projector headlights. Then by taping off the blue wire, you will not be able to utilize the high beam function of the actual LED projector. I don't believe anyone has found a way to properly do so yet in the pre-2022 4runners. And from the sounds of it, the LED highs are not great and do not compare to the halogen highs.

The DRL and high beam will remain as is (halogen). The wiring is not changed here. You utilize your stock halogen bulb, wiring/connector here. Hope this helps.

uhOh50,

I don't believe anyone has found a way to properly do so yet in the pre-2022 4runners.

I already answered your previous comment about utilizing the high beam function of the Bi-LED headlights in previous posts. I am able to run my DRL with the high beam halogens and activate the Bi-LED high beam and halogen high beams.

Thanks. Do you lose the DRL function by going this route?

Are there socket extensions that can be used when cutting, splicing, and experimenting so we don’t chop our factory harnesses when retrofitting or trying new things?

yes there are different type of connections to help, but you can always solder the harness back together if necessary.

Let me see if I understand this, please correct me if I have this wrong.

-You have a 2020 Pro which originally had the halogen low beam / halogen high beam.
-You bought and installed the 2021 Pro headlights that are LED hi beam and LED low beam (bi-LED).
-You de-pinned the plastic LED low beam connectors from your old original headlights in order to install them on your new bi-LED headlights.
-You took out the 3 pins from each new bi-LED headlight connector, then installed the red (pos) and black (neg) into the old low beam headlight connector in the proper positions.
-You plugged your truck’s low beam harness into the modified bi-LED headlight connector.
-You plugged your truck’s high beam harness connector into a 9005 bulb installed in the bi-LED headlight’s (former) DRL position.
-You wire-tapped or soldered an additional length of wire to the blue pinned wire of each new headlight, then connected (soldered or tapped) it to the high beam power wire at each respective high beam harness connector (green wire right, black wire left).
-You disabled the DRL function on the entertainment screen.
-So now you have LED high and low beams, and the halogen reflector lights up as a high beam also. And you have no DRL function.

Is this what you did?

Electroboy,

Correct except the connection to the high beam harness. I wanted to retain my DRL function and have both LED high beams and halogen high beam functional.

I tapped power off the green wire right and black wire left off of the high beam harness by stripping back enough insulation to solder to the respective wires. that tapped wire was connected to a bosch style relay with a diode for spike suppression to terminal 85 and 30. Terminal 87 was connected to the blue Bi-LED high beam actuator and terminal 86 was ground.

I utlitilzed a bosch style relay because the voltage needed to activate the relay is around 7 volts. The voltage output of the green and black high beam power is low around 2-3 volts in DRL mode insufficient to activate the relay. The relay has a slight humming sensation because the coil is being charged. When the high beam is activated, the voltage output from the green and black wires is 12 volts activating the relay and powering the blue actuator wire.

Regarding disabling the DRL via the infotainment screen - this is not possible with the old entune on the 2019 and below 4runners.

That is true. with early versions, you would need to bend the pin in the drl module. that topic has been thoroughly discussed.

I did not disable my DRL function. That is the reason why I am running a relay to activate the Bi-LED high beam actuator.

Got it. Appreciate the insight and will definitely help others.

I am content with just the halogens as the dedicated DRL/highs. But nice to know that it is possible to implement the highs from the LED projectors if wanted.
