Philips 4300k kit, which is a $90 upgrade (but worth it).

My other car didnt have any issues and the main reason i bought them for my 4runner. When they work its awesome. I have pretty much replaced everything on thiss kit other than the bulbs itself...just not reliable. Im at the point where i need to see what the alternatives are.

The pattern is full and bright, though not as bright as HID. The only catch was that I had to order replacement dust caps for the headlight because I had drilled the originals for the HID kit.
I'd be skeptical about that LasFit kit. I'm sure heat buildup can be an issue, but I've never heard of anyone on here melting headlights or burning out LEDs because of overheating. The special ventilated cap sounds like a solution to a problem that doesn't occur, and a good method for water intrusion and condensation problems.
these GTR ultra 2 look interesting with what info i can find on them. and cheaper than the xenon depot

My HID Morimoto kit with Phillips bulbs are garbage if anyone is on the fence about buying these. The light output is really good, but very unreliable.

I would love OEM ones if they had a simple P&P for the older models to use. There is a guy on the Taco forums that sells a wiring adaptor for them, nice setup for those upgrading their Taco's to the newer LED's (like $1400 for new one units). Toyota had told me that my '17 can't use the newer headlights.

What do you mean unreliable? Not consistent beam pattern? Or literally some days they don’t come on at all lol

My Apexcone HIDs from DDM Tuning on 2004 gave up the ghost after 8 years of flawless service. I ended up getting decent quality affordable LED bulbs online (I don't remember where) and pretty happy with output. Don't revert to halogens after using HID because it'd feel like using candle to light up the road.

Doesn't turn on. Sometimes one or the other or both. Very unreliable since new & getting worse. I usually have to turn it off and on many times & sometimes I just give up if one of them turns on. Junk

Well, somebody here said they just unplugged everything & replugged it back and it started working. I did that and it's been perfect for a couple of week. Not sure why that worked but looks like I'm keeping them. They really are 100% better than halogen bulbs.

Morimoto is garbage. The vendor verified this by replacing them with a different brand. He said they've had way too many problems with them. Anyway, I replaced them with Hylux brand from Lightwerkz.com.

LED performance is so good now that I would replace any aftermarket HID with LED just for the amount of options available.

Now OEM HID… while 4Runners went straight from Halogen to LED *** if they didn’t *** I would hang onto ol’ reliable if it had a tried and true D1S or D3S setup with the on-bulb igniters.

There was a time I wished there was a retrofit kit with those bulbs but now I wouldn’t ever want a setup involving an aftermarket ballast.

Morimoto and DDM were supposed to be top tier companies for HID but the reality I’ve come to accept is that aftermarket / retail is only so good, regardless of price.

A retail box Denso AC compressor is not built the same as an OE Denso installed at the factory. This is true for many electronics and accessories, but there are other areas where retail / non-dealer offerings excel, such as tires.

I actually wanted to try a set of Morimotos to try to get rid of the damn L shaped clip shadow out of my beam pattern (this is not the cutoff line) but all aftermarket options at this point - Morimoto, Alpharex - seem dicey.
