Nokya Wire Harness H9 NoK9117 Head Light Bulb Socket Female Male High Beam Plug | eBay

Wire Harness Plug & Play – Nokya Lighting

The other adapters having complaints of melting doesn’t sound fun.

I’d love to just do something straightforward that was gonna last plug and play. If there was a company whose adapters were reliable for both the low and high beam halogen swap without cutting tabs, I’d be all for that experiment.

Then if there is a sale on the SS3 fog or driving lights, get the pro model that supposedly has double the output and call it a day. Not sure what’s more versatile for mountain roads, their fog or driving. If the driving lights were pencil beams maybe fogs are better option, especially if the low beam mod drastically improved lighting.
Go back to my previous post and read the first two sentences.

It’s not a matter of connecting the harness to a new bulb. It’s physically getting that new bulb to fit into the headlight housing.

Smack my forehead, got it, so even if those adapters eliminate cutting the little tab, there is the other mod to get them to fit in the housing still to do....

Well Diode Dynamics has a 15% off sale for Labor Day, but it’s a 3-4 week wait for any SS3 fogs pro or sport for 4runner. Bummer. I’m making this mountain drive pretty much every weekend and wanted to do this ASAP because it doesn’t even feel safe unless I want to crawl speed. And admittedly when you’re working until 9pm or 10pm, and have a 2 hour drive home from mountains back into LA I want to hurry!!!

I have a cool audio, tint and light shop locally that hooks up vets and first responders and he said he can throw in some LED bulbs into my fogs cheap and fast.... but as someone said I only want to cry once. Even if it’s cheap if they aren’t fantastic I’ll still want to do something else.

Been scanning tons of threads and some people claim really good results with plug and play Toyota/LEXUS stock LED fogs for only $120. That’s significantly cheaper than Diode Dynamics....and seems similar to some of the LED bulb replacements.

I’m considering them now since it’s on amazon and can get here ASAP, and if OEM would hope they last a long time.

And since I even as a dunce can replace headlight bulbs, and mine are 4 years old, may just attempt the Phillips X-tremevision upgrades to low and high beams in stock H11/9005. If it’s true on these threads and videos I’ve burned tons of time looking at, my stock lights may be less powerful just because of age , and perhaps some stock LED fogs and x-tremevision new bulbs will get me home a little safer (and faster).

If that doesn’t do the trick I’m guessing this shop could throw and off brand LED light bar behind the grill fairly cheap to use on the dirt roads until I get back to main highway. Or I pony up for the KC 20” behind grill model if my first attempt with above doesn’t work. This is where I am sort of leaning for moment just to get it done sooner than later and keeps it sh$t simple.

I got the TRD Pro 4 years ago because I had a horrible habit with every 4x4 I’ve ever owned (and that’s all I’ve owned) of constantly putting this or that on, even if I didn't have time to wheel. I was hoping the TRDP was “cool” enough for as old as I am to learn to grow up and not be lifting, adding lights, bumpers and winches to 4x4s when I now live in LA and can’t go wheeling and hunting every weekend like I did growing up!! Even looking at lights has me thinking I need a bumper and sliders... not logical !!

If I understand correctly, you need better light in mountainous twisty roads with little oncoming traffic where you can use your high beams a lot. If that’s the case get the 9011 high beam bulbs and cut the tabs as shown above. The tab is plastic, very easy to cut with side cutters. Try this first.

The low beam H9 conversion is a little more involved so I can understand your hesitation.

But you may be giving fog lights too much of your attention. Fog lights are intended for fog. Or dust. Or falling snow. To give you better low angle visibility and to see the edges of the road while driving *slowly* during crappy conditions. No matter what you imagine they will not help you drive faster at night. They put a lot of light directly in front of you, and your eyes and brain respond by focusing attention to close nearby details. For high speed driving you want good long distance illumination and to pay attention to details far down the road so you can have time to react.

In any case, the OEM halogen fogs are not very good. The Toyota LED fog lights are a lot better and brighter and have a great beam cutoff. There are several reviews on this site. I installed them and can recommend them.

Thank you for this. Yea initially I was thinking of getting the Diode Dynamics driving lights so they helped long distance.... but I remember being frustrated not having any light off to the sides with the hairpin turns, and most driving lights I’ve had were super pencil beam... looking at the threads on guys installing SS3 fogs it looked awesome how they lit up the sides of the road and made me flip flop thinking maybe they’re bright enough to light up sides of road and also further down road than stock fogs and low beams so would be descent option especially if I got “pro” version that’s supposed to be double output (but some explanations say it doesn’t mean double the light because of some slight differences in the design?).

I’m rarely gonna see snow or rain living in Los Angeles. I may have some Minnesota, Idaho and Colorado road trips in my future though as some law enforcement retreat centers get rocking and I’ll be working at them. But mainly California city driving and desert mountains... and yes Where it’s bad and me leaving late at night little oncoming traffic. So I can high beam for sure.

Hmmm so maybe the 9011s, upgrade low beams to X-tremevision, and perhaps the factory LED fog upgrade since it’s only $120 on amazon and could get here ASAP. This thread is first time I’ve seen the quote buy once cry once, so wondering with the sale at Diode are their sport version SS3 fogs or driving lights, worth the extra ~$70 more than the Toyota LED fog replacements?? And to wait a few weeks?

If I wasn’t living on a fixed medical pension and doing full time volunteer work for first responders and vets, I’d just throw on a bumper with a KC 20” LED bar, upgrade fogs to Toyota, and call it a day as that would have to be enough light for the mountain roads !

Jeez after seeing the video DD has online about the heat generated by LED bulbs I think I'm gonna pull mine out. Ordered some of the Phillips bulbs.

Hope the new 2021 LED lights from Toyota are drop in.

I was originally going to get the Toyota LED fogs or the Philips bulb but DD had a sale (having one right now, not too high though) so I got the SS3s sae fogs. Real pleased with them Seeing that you're from LA, I can show you my light set up? (9011s, H9s (or H11 quality bulbs), and SS3s)

Get off the forum if you want to be done. Otherwise you will slowly get sucked in to make more and more mods. You will enjoy them all no doubt, but you will also think back to that day you said “I’ll leave it how it is.” The forum gets us all, some just quicker than others.

Would like that ! Where you at? I’m in South Bay part of LA. Yea 15% off sale for Labor Day. But unless I hurry and get the sport driving, every other fog and driving light of SS3 is sold out. So it would be a wait. But maybe it’s worth it. I need to figure out if I go SS3, fog or driving, sport or pro....or stock Toyota LED and save some money.

And the headlight bulbs, maybe to keep it simple just do 9011. But if your close and we can connect would be sweet.

Oh that’s why I haven’t been on here. An ex girlfriend used to joke I was the only guy she knew who has a truck “porn” problem. Jeeps and 4runner’s And old K5s and Chevy square body’s are my former addictions. I’ve been 4 years with stock TRDP with zero modifications. A record for me. Part
Of it is I have no money haha. But now that I’m driving in mountains it’s giving me excuses to want stuff.

I'm around westwood! We can definitely meet up sometime next week!

I'm currently running 9011s in highs, H11 GE Nightbreaker 120s (highly recommend by the light researcher at tacomaworld), and SS3 yellow fogs. Also have H9s I can plug in to show the difference.

Dang haha there are so many options. Haven’t read of the GE nightbreaker 120s yet... will be curious to hear why you prefer them pros/cons Over H9.

Oops I mean Night hawk!

Amazon.com: GE Lighting 69865 H11 55NHX/BP2 Nighthawk Xenon Halogen Replacement Bulb, 2-Pack: Automotive

I have the H9s but went with the Night hawks originally as I wanted to see how the other H11 options were. Pretty pleased with them but do have H9s cut and ready to go if needed.

Now I’ve been trying to read some super long threads on Tacoma forums. Lots of guys love the H11 GE megalight ultra 130 and say they’re nearly as good as H9. But they’ll not have a long life. So some say the H11 Phillips X-treme vision +100 are also very good and have a little longer life then the 130s.

Nighthawks seem to be in similar category.

Seems enough folks say good things all of those H11s to be way better than stock for the low beams. So maybe I can’t go wrong throwing one of those selections in.

Maybe those plus 9011...

And just need to decide before the sale is over if ordering and waiting for Diode Dynamics SS3 lights is worth it. But now I’m conflicted between fogs or driving... it the 9011 really is double stock high beams maybe I’ll be good to go and not need driving lights. Just do the white fogs for the narrow twisty roads I can’t go too fast on and will be low beams. And can’t figure out if the Pro version is worth the extra $120 over the sports.
