TRD Pro Lift Help and Additions on 2014 TEP w/ KDSS

Hey all,

I just bought a slightly used TRD Pro Bilstein Suspension setup and I'd like to supplement it with some additional lift on the 2014 TEP w/ KDSS on stock suspension.

In addition to the Bilstein TRD kit, my thoughts are to add the following to get it a little extra lift. I also tow a small teardrop camper, and carry light cargo in the rear, so having a little stiffer spring back there might be beneficial.

Any help would be appreciated, especially surrounding issues with the KDSS. I don't want to push that to it's limit, or replace UCAs unless there's a good reason, and from what I can tell this setup shouldn't do that.

If anyone has thoughts, recommendations or concerns, please let me know, and thanks in advance for the help.

1) A BAJA1 - Toytec 1" Front Lift for TRD 4Runner

BAJA1 - 1" Front Lift for TRD BAJA and Pro Edition Tacoma & 4Runners

2) Wheeler's T13 Rear Coil Spring Pair for 10+ 4Runner

Wheeler's T13 Rear Coil Spring Pair for 10+ 4Runner

3) 150PR10 - OME 10mm Rear Trim Spacer (I've been told the KDSS 4Runners lean, and this should be installed to fix that. Should it go driver or passenger?)

Should be okay. You'll be near the upper limit of adjustability for the UCAs, and KDSS should be fine with 2"s.

I'm unconvinced that you'll need the shim for 'lean'. There is a method for 'leveling' the vehicle with KDSS via partially removing an adjustment screw to allow the system to balance on level ground, and then close the adjustment screw. I would try that first (with the vehicle loaded as you'd like with gas/driver/gear etc.) to minimize extra parts if not needed.

Thanks Mo_Mo, do you recommend just getting the UCAs then? Would it improve the ride? I'd rather not spend the money if I can avoid it, but if it's something that would cause issues with the vehicle or ride, I'd rather know up front. I was always under the impression that 3" was the rule for needing new UCAs

I have the TRD Pro Bilstein coilovers upfront with the ToyTec 1inch perch, and was able to get away using the stock UCAs. Alignment was able to still get me +3 degrees caster, but all cars are different. I was told the stock UCA were pretty much maxed out though.

I'll be removing the Toytec 1inch perch soon if you're interested in a used pair. Nothing wrong with it, it rides really good, I just have an opportunity to swap the stock coils with longer/heavier FJ coils

look into buying the dobinsons trd pro coil that nets you some extra height instead of the spacers. slap some new coils in the back and you are good to go

Thanks tm965 and anomalous, I appreciate the feedback.

I did see the Dobinsons (linked below). You think these would provide a better ride/experience than the perch? They both claim the same amount of lift, 1", but if the coils are better I'll spend the extra $60. Especially if it will better prepare me for potential add-ons in the future, like a lo-pro bumper and possibly a winch.

if you're going to be adding weight id def go the coil route. that said i wouldnt go and add a 200lb bumper + winch on this set up. you'd prob be fine with a light low-pro and a winch with synthetic line

Regarding the lean, my understanding is that the leveling method momo mentioned only lasts for a few weeks before the lean returns. I ended up doing the T13s and a 10mm OME trim packer to keep it level long term. Since it’s easy to add, I would just give it to the shop and they can add it if there’s a lean to whatever side needs it.

Regarding UCAs, you should be fine without but you can get better caster with. I’m at about a 2.75” lift in front on 6112s with my ORP w/ KDSS, and my shop said the alignment was within spec. It drives fine with stock UCAs but I might do aftermarket at some point.

Here is a pic.

Yes, the trim packer goes in the rear. You can get a small spacer to fix any lean in front if you need it, but I didn’t. I don’t have a pic from the rear, but it’s level.

i have a little less than a 1/4" of lean on the driver front as it currently sits right now with just the trd pro suspension. I've never even noticed it until i took a tape measure to it.
