Off the beaten path in Gatlinburg area

Going to be traveling to Gatlinburg area in a couple of weeks. Anyone have some places that are good for some light off-roading or some good places to visit that only locals know about. I’ve been down that way about 10x for vacations, so I’m somewhat familiar with the area, just looking for something different to do.

Walden road out of pigeon forge towards Maryville used to have some good access roads to ride on.

Be careful as a lot of areas are private property.

Went to UT and used to wheel the area extensively. That was 15+ years ago and a lot has changed.

At the Tennessee/Kentucky state line is an off road park called Turkey Bay. I believe it's in Murray, KY. Lots of easy trails but also lots of challenging stuff if you're up to it.

That's the other side of the state. Probably a good 5-6 hours from Gatlinburg

Since you will be in Gatlinburg and will quickly tire of crowds, head East on Hwy 321 toward Cosby. Turn right on Hwy 32. You will pass the Cosby entrance to the park then about 10 miles of curvy road bordering the park. It crosses the Appalachian Trail. From there it turns to a gravel road. Beautiful country and almost no one around. Stay on that road and cross I40 and drive into Cataloochee. Think Cade’s Cove but with no crowds. Fishing, hiking trails, elk and other wildlife all over the place.

For sure.....That place is unbelievable. You can take the easy trail to the top (trail 16 I think). Stay on the green if you’re not experienced, but they’re always changing so could get away with a blue here and there possibly.
