Overhead eyeglass holder

We just bought a 2012 T4R and the small overhead compartment door will not stay up in the closed position very long before it drops back down. Any suggestions on how to fix it?

Thanks - gmtcm

Find the part and buy it. Either pull up the repair manual, try to find it at a place like this Camelback Toyota Parts - Genuine OEM Parts - Free Shipping, they have parts layouts you can try to use, or bring the part into a dealer and have them look up the part number and either buy it from them or try and find it online.

Question Floppy Sunglasses Holder

Same problem with my 2012 T4R SR5. My local Toyota dealer can show me a $140.00 replacement part for the Trail crawl switch module that goes in place of the SR5 sunglasses holder, connectors extra, period.

Camelback Toyota online parts will sell you the whole overhead console for an arm and a leg. Has anybody been able to solve this issue apart from a once in a lifetime salvage yard score?

@richcrest While the overhead eyeglass holder is open, reach into the opening on the side closest do the driver. You'll feel and see a little black plastic tab. It slides into the rail that is visible on the side of the eyeglass holder when it is open. It has just gotten jammed in place. All you'll need to do is gently push it either forward or backward and that should solve your issue. Worked for me at least.

Talking

Thanks. I noticed something shiny on the little latch path molded into the sunglasses cover. Probably clear grease. I swabbed it off using a Q-tip and tried closing the cover with the latch in different positions. I got the cover to latch flush with the console for the first time in a year.

Having a similar issue with 2016 4Runner. The plastic on the inside of the drop-down holder is deformed where the pin rides around the edge and locks it into place. When it's warm, the pin slips right through and it won't stay closed. Toyota wants a couple thousand to replace the entire overhead console when it's technically a minor fix. I feel like the holder itself could be replaced. Suggestions?
