Changeable Fog Lights

Been systematically upgrading my lighting when I got my used (new to me) 4runner. Previous owner put in Tacoma fogs which as I understand it are the same ones the 2020 4runners come with (at least in the TRD PRO model).

I really like the idea of moving to upgraded Baja Designs Squadrons in white but I have a need for amber in snowy and dusty conditions up in the mountains. As I understand it standalone squadrons could easily put on an amber cover to change the light when needed but because of the fog bezel, can't do that on the 4runner. Is there any other fog kit out there on the market for a 4runner or that someone put together that allows you to switch between colors?

I've seen a switchable bulb for the fog lights? These any good and provide good light for the trail?

Just reread your post...

Sadly there is no company that has a solution without removing the fog light housing and doing the swap of the lens... as you stated the 4runner bezel gets in the way.

You 100% can change out the lenses on the Baja fogs with the 4Runner mounting kit. You need to remove the lights in order to do it but if you watch the above video, you would need to remove the SS3 lights as well. That’s a complete wash so just get whichever lights you think fit your needs the best.

That's what I figured. Oh well. Not sure if I want to go to that changable bulb either.

Ya so I’ve run bulbs in the factory housings which were fine for a while but later switched to the Baja fog kit. The Diode Dynamic ones weren’t available at the time or I probably would have gone with them since I’ve used their interior LED bulbs in my last 3 vehicles. They’re good people to work with for sure.

If you feel you would benefit from the yellow then I would go with that and only turn the fogs on when you need them. Unless weather the weather is bad there isn’t much reason to run fogs in general but that’s just my opinion.

It will dim the light output some, but you can put film over the lens. Then take it off/apply more as needed.

Thought of that too. Perhaps just buying a roll of it when needed and keeping in the back. Thanks man.

I had BD Sport in the combo lens installed before and ordered LaminX 2 inch strips in yellow and in light smoke. I was planning on installing the top half smoke and bottom half yellow tint. Shortly after DD had the white SS3 Sport SAE on sale for $150 shipped so I abandoned the BD project all together and sold everything. I kinda wondered how that customized BD combo would of looked. I enjoy the wider visible SS3 beam pattern more, it's less pencilish than the BDs. SS3 beam pattern also blended in with my side shooter ditch light beam pattern more. Just something to think about while shopping for new fog replacements.

@JRod0981 I had the Baja Design kit back before it included the angled face plate. With the flat face plate you might have enough room to change the lens without removing the fog lights or bumper. It would mean working from both the front and from underneath the bumper but I think it would be possible. You might also consider trying their amber rock guard to fit over top of the flat bezel. But I'm not sure if that would work as easily.
As for how to get it, you'd have to order directly from Baja Designs and request the flat bezel. If there's a comment or request section online you could use that, or just call them directly. Don't forget they offer 10% off and $5 contiguous US shipping with discount code BDFORUMS. I would suggest the black face plates.

This isn't the best angle, but one of the shots I have showing how much gap there is between the OEM bezel and the flat face plates. That gap was almost the same top and bottom, your pinch point would be on the outside edge, and that still had some clearance.

My 2013 uses H11 bulbs and these would be switchables for mine. Just search your bulb on Amazon:

Amazon.com: ALLA Lighting H8 H9 H11 LED Switchback Fog Lights Super Bright 8000Lm H11 Switchback Fog/Headlights Bulbs Replacement, 6000K White / 3000K Amber Yellow: Automotive

Eh I’ve replaced the lens on mine without removing them from the 4Runner . You can pop off the black trim on the bumper. It takes a bit more work but it’s doable.

Both of these options are cheaper than the BD fogs or Diode Dynamics but I know the output won't be nearly as good.

Baja Designs would make for a great fog light, you'd love those! In particular, the Amber ones look fantastic!
