Replacement for USB relocation
Hey, everyone.
I just ordered an Expedition Essentials accessory panel for my 2020 pro. I have plans to take the usb input plug under the climate controls and hide it behind the head unit and just keep a lightning cable plugged into it with the business end routed out between panels next to where my phone will be mounted on the new panel.
My issue is that I’d like to put a usb power replacement in that spot instead of a blank. I can’t find any small sized usb plugs online. There are tons of standard size plug and play options, but none I can find that fit the new, smaller size (see pic). It’s frustrating that Toyota decided to change the size of this socket. It used to be a standard size that you could drop anything into...
Anyone have a source they’re willing to share? I don’t want to MacGyver anything.

Been looking for the ones used on the 2020. Was told it’s only available from the port. Is that true ?

I think the cleanest and easiest solution, if you don't mind spending the money, would be to just replace the entire lower panel with the 2014-2019 part# that has the standard size cutout (about $75 iirc) or upgrade to the 2010-2013 lower panel that has the closing door.

Here's the lower panel with the door open, uninstalled. That's the best I can do since it's not mine. I just linked the pics from the other thread.

I found those already along with many on eBay. As I mentioned in my original post, the size is no longer the standard blank size in the 2020. They took away the aux in on models with car play and all there is is a USB input.
If you look at the photo I posted, The current plug is maybe 1/4 inch smaller in height than previous models.

I would like to try this but I have dual zone climate control and I don’t think it will fit.

I'm looking to do something similar. Couldn't we just order another replacement USB plug from Toyota parts and wire it for only charging?

That’s an idea. Gotta go hunt down the part number and hope it isn’t more than $30.

I apologize, but in my defense the angle of the pic and the little door 1/2 open hides the size of the component you referring to. I didn't realize they would change the size of that spot after 10 years..........

Do you know the part number of that USB port you have (anyone?).
Also can you post a couple different pics of it with the cap shut and maybe open all the way with no cable? If not, no worries....I'm just trying to find something that might work for you.

Of course. Appreciate the help. I plan on probably taking the head unit out Saturday to install the accessory panel. I’ll try to remember to pop it out and grab some pics of the whole plug.
