Permanently Relocating to Germany and taking 2016 4runner along

Hi Guys,
We have a 2016 4runner limited with 34,000 miles on it that we own outright. My family and I are relocating to Germany and are planning on taking the 4runner with us. I have tried to investigate as to what modifications if any the 4runner might need to meet European Standards? If any of you have done this or have info to share on it. I would be highly appreciative as I have been coming up empty handed with all my searches!
Thank You

I can't help with the requirements, but I will say I'm damn jealous of you. Germany is amazing and I'd be chuffed to live there myself. Good luck!

There was a thread some time back about the same thing, some soldier moving over there. A few people who are stationed there as well as Zee Germans responded with healthy input. Try searching the forum using Google, not the shite search function on the board itself.

Are you in the military? If you are, I would suggest contacting your sponsor. I was stationed in Germany 2015-2017, and Italy 2017-2019. There are A lot US spec cars in Europe (military owned), there’s not going to be a lot of modifications that you will need since it’s still new. Dark window tints are no go unless it’s factory tint, they don’t like excessive lifts and big tires protruding. Keep your mud flaps. They are strict on annual inspection to ensure road safety specially on the autobahns. You will have emergency kits, reflective vest, and first aid kits on your vehicle at all times. It is mandatory to stop and be a Good Samaritan if someone pulls over or got into an accident - it is a law.

Here’s a good info..

I believe the primary requirement for German vechicles is the vehicles ability to quickly drive into Poland.

(sorry I've been watching too much old Top Gear, and this reminded me of their VW ad.)

Sell it. It's not the car you probably want to own in Germany. You won't be going off road in any meaningful sense. It's a country 1/3 smaller than California and 3 times as densely populated. Gas is very expensive. And parking will be less than fun with a 4Runner in the cities. If anything - sell it and buy diesel Prado 150 over there.

Good luck.

Sell it and buy a Prado.

Germans are more forgiving about US spec vehicles if you're .mil, but if you're Joe Public, save yourself the hassle.

While I know you must love the car, with the elevated used car prices right now, it might be more efficient to just sell it and buy a new car when you get to Germany.

+1 for sell it

Buy a Prado or buy something that'll fit in better for parking and moving about the city.

Sell the 4Runner here. Get over to Munich quickly as Octoberfest is starting in a few days. Big jugs full of beer. And milk. Forget about offroading.

Keep it and be the ''Weird American"........that is PRICELESS! Then when you leave to come home, sell it for a premium to a Rich Kraut.

+1 on the sale. I was stationed there about 10 years ago, so I'm not sure what the vehicle requirements look like, but like others have said, gas is much more expensive over there and parking won't be fun. Add to it, many of their smaller towns are built around ancient structures and the streets are incredibly narrow. Did I mention the gas? ;)
