Question 2010 TR4 tried to start, but does not.....

Hey all,

I have a 2010 tr4 that as of today is having an issue starting. It tries to start, runs for about a second or so and shuts off.

I did unplug the Air intake sensor (at the air filter housing) and that seemed to work, it ran, so I got a new sensor, plugged it in and it went back to running for a second or so. Now if I unplug the sensor it doesn't run like it did the first attempt, instead just the second or so. I have also tried unplugging the throttle body, no change.

I'm not sure where to venture next (I don't have a code reader). I was going to purchase a code scanner, but I can't get it to run long enough to see if the Check Engine light stays on or not.

If anyone has any input that would be great. I have not had to take my vehicles to a mechanic before, always did my own repairs, but I'm not equipt to properly diagnosis this issue. Was hoping someone had the same issue, or a Toy tech was on here with some valuable input.

Thanks for reading!
DB

You don't need the car running to pull codes.

Thanks, I just don't want to spend 60$ on the scanner..... I was thinking if the check engine light was on then I would know there was a code and possibly make the 60$ worth it, but I hate to buy the scanner and there is nothing saved.

Could very well be nothing saved.

Scanner is never waste of money if you plan on fixing your own vehicles like you mentioned. Now maybe buying on of those fancy ones is but a cheap one will never will be a waste.
