My Icon Upgrade
I’m on my 3rd 4runner and have 575k-ish miles in a 4runner in my life. I’ve had 2 3rd gens running Sonoran Steel lifts on 33’s and I’ve always driven my 4runners hard and maintained them meticulously. They’ve never let me down.
For my current 16 TE, I don’t want to run a lift. For what I do with it, it doesn’t need it. It’s way more capable than my built up 3rd gens were, and in stock form (remember Toyota ran one on the rubicon back in 2009), so I run a real front skid plate, some real tires, and that’s it.
But because I drive hard and it sees off-roading, the stock shocks were starting to get a bit too squishy for my liking at 75k miles. So I upgraded. Icon 2.5 front coilovers setup to level the front, Icon 2.0 rear shocks.
Install could have gone better had I done my homework, but once I read the instructions Icon included and watched a KDSS install YouTube video I was fine and had the fronts in after about 35 minutes per side. Rears (remember just shock replacement) was about 20 minutes per side.
The ride on road is night and day. I really can’t emphasize that enough. Even the MRS. NOTICED, if that’s not the gold seal, well then I don’t know what is.
I’m very happy with my decision to pick an upgrade that was the right fit for my rig and how I use it.
Shout out to @totalautomotiveperformance for the parts supply.
