Got a deal on 285/70/17 wildpeaks, will they fit on stock 2012 sr5?
Title says it. Have a 2012 SR5 with the stock 17” alloy wheels. Got a deal on 285/70/17 fallen wildpeaks and I’ve read various accounts saying it will fit but will encounter rubbing when off-road. I don’t off-road too often but we do like to and it’s Covid approved so more is in the future and it’s easy enough trails that I was fine before I just removed the thick rocker trim. Do I need a lift? If so what’s the minimum I can get away with to avoid rubbing without costing an arm and a leg.. (was laid off - thanks covid) any help, suggestions, messages are very helpful. Thanks!
Oh I do have a third row, if that effects weight somehow...

I dont have the wildpeaks but I do have the Wildpeak M/Ts in 285 (E). They fit on stock trail wheels (same offset as SR5s) after I removed the mudflaps. They only rubbed on compression full lock. Here's how it looks without mudflaps. You might not need to remove the flaps on the AT3Ws as they are just a tad smaller than the M/Ts

I think you could get the components for a real suspension lift for a pretty good price. Look for Bilstein 5100 and Wheelers T1/T13. Check to make sure the 285s will work on the stock wheel. Width might be off?

Thanks! The 5100s and t1/t3 looks affordable enough, 500-600. Plus whatever I need to have a shop install them... stiiiiiill don’t have a job tho so might have to hold off on spending that much and just stay on the highway....

Just know that if the tires don't fit prior to a lift, then it will likely rub after a lift when compressed. Especially offroad!

Rubbing isnt the only thing you should be concerned about. The SR5 wheels and the Trail wheels are the same offset, but different width. The SR5 wheels are technically too narrow for 285 width tires, as suggested by the manufacturers. Tire shops routinely ignore this, and offroad guys will mount 285s on even narrower rims...but you will be out of spec. Whether or not that matters to you is...up to you.

I've got wildpeak AT (LT) and had to do body mount chop to fit them cause even at the maximum caster they were rubbing quite a lot. Then of course trimming the front splash guard and the bumper. After that everything was fine for a while until I hit a trail When flexing suspension on a trail it chewed up this black plastic cover on the bottom of the fender along with the splash guard on the back Heated it up with heat gun and bent it in. And so far so good, no more rubbing

what wheels are you running? Thankfully I didnt have to trim the front as it was all cut off already for my Lopro bumper haha. I would rub on the flaps even on the street. Thankfully I just had to remove the flaps. No more rubbing when compressed to bumpstops. May change out to a 34 though so going to have to cut the body mount eventually

Hehe.. lucky you! ;) The C4 Lopro bumper is on my list but only after I get Gobi rack and rear bumper.
I'm on stock TRD off-road wheels. The mud flaps were gone right when I've got wildpeaks
Forgot to mention, I had to put wheel spacers on the front too because tires were rubbing against the Kings remote reservoirs at full lock. Got different (vertical) reservoir mounts but still need to weld in a couple of nuts on each side of the frame. And since I'm lazy I keep driving it with spacers for now

Well. Nothing like a load of information to keep me wondering wtf I should do... pro and con of having a rich community of experience! I still have life left on the current tires so I have some time to figure it out. Maybe I can look for trd wheels (not the 17x7s) that I can get used but money is still tight. Or, as a buddy suggested, flip the tires and buy the 265/70... located in NoVa and I know there’s a few of you nearby...
