285s rubbing BMC or alignment fix?
So i jumped up to 285 Wildpeaks from 275 KO2s, (road force balanced, no vibes) already removed flaps, pushed liner in front and trimmed about 2 inches off fender, but now at full turn reverse I’m rubbing on the body mount. I’m running JBA UCA and bilsteins/wheelers, so my question is can I tweak my alignment to move forward a little, or am I stuck doing the BMC?

Definitely sounds like a UCA adjustment to me. Won't be cheap unless you do it yourself.
What wheels are you running?

Ray 10s...I already talked to RPM garage, and they said only a couple hours to get the chop done by their fabrication guy. It might be better just to do the chop, and keep alignment dialed in.

takes 30 min to chop it with a sawzall and a good blade or two. and no sparks like with an angle grinder.

i do the bmc and get it over with.
To the OP: I had mine done at the truck stop in Miramar. Pretty happy with how they did it too....
What they did, was they put relief cuts into the Body mount, and bent it back and then weld it into place. So now the body mount is angled back. Plenty of room, and the stock welds are still in place. No need to buy any plates, looks stock for the most part unless you are looking for the chop.
I spent 2 years messing with my suspension to not get it to rub, but then again, that's because I'm retarded and want my tires to poke out..... One day, I noticed I had big ol holes in my mudflaps....it was time to do the chop.

The thing that sucks about 285s is that they're all different sizes. Bigger MTs rubbed on mine until I did the BMC.
You can fiddle with the alignment but ultimately you'll get bad rubbing at full lock that may chunk out your tires (steel always wins).
I had Armorology do mine, looks better than factory, lol.

I’m leaning toward just doing the chop. It’s so straight forward, and really gives you 2-3 inches of clearance. I feel like i would just be chasing my tale trying to tweak my alignment. I’m super stoked on those 285 Wildpeaks though...they are super quiet, and 285s just look killer on these 4Rs. It’s chop time!

seriously call up truck stop in miramar. I think it was 70 bucks and you can wait while they do it.
If you have never heard of the truck stop, they specialize in Toyota 4x4's for the most part. They are pretty much the only shop that wrenches on my truck if I'm not willing to do it myself.
They do some insane stuff there..from complete restorations to baja trucks.

I will call them tomorrow...their reviews are top notch. Do you remember how much you paid and time involved?

i think it was 70 and it was a few hours. They have a waiting room, and they might drop you off somewhere to kill time if you want.
I ended up just chilling at the bar a few spots down in the same parking lot, watching sports, or playing video games in their waiting room. There is also a strip club in the same complex, if you don't want to hang out at the bar or in their wait room.

You have pics of the bmc job they did? I’m thinking about having them do the metal tech kit, as it looks like it cuts closest to the mount bolt and provides the best clearance.

Do both, there is no reason to not chop and get your alignment dialed in better.
Had a local shop here in Dallas do it for 200$, including the steel plates fab and welding with paint. Looks way better than I could ever get it to look.
Better to do it right the first time and not seriously damage your tires.

I haven't needed to do mine, but Tandem Automotive in Haltom City (Ft. Worth) would do it for $150. $70 sounds too cheap at that truck stop, but who knows.

Agreed...i just quoted out two very reputable shops in So Cal, and it’s a couple hour job to be done right with clean welds and painted finish etc at $100/hr labor. I think the truck stop is so cheap because they don’t weld a new bracket plate on, but rather bend the existing mount plate back which up until now, I’ve never even heard of.

I’m seriously surprised you have rub with those tires. The Falkens tend to run on the slightly smaller size and 285s commonly fit. Keep us posted.
