Body Mount Relocate NOT Chop

I saw a post on the 4th gen forum about NTK FabWorks body mount relocate kit while I was researching BMCs. I looked up the IG account and followed to get an idea of the work. Nick's metal work is great and he was just down the road in NC a couple of hours. Seeing the very good work he does online gave me confidence to buy from NTK and discuss install. Nick recommended another fab guy in VA to do the install to save me the drive but that guy had relocated. In the end, I'm very happy I took it to him. Quality work and there were certainly details he was aware of as a professional welder that I would have missed if trying to do this DIY.

Impressive. I'm about to have the BMC done in a couple weeks, so this was of interest. I have to ask though what advantages come from moving the body mount like this?
The kit is $125 versus the $25 for MetalTech4x4's BMC kit. It also looks like a significantly greater amount of work. Not to mention a much greater amount of of the frame that is exposed and recoated.

If you are willing to cut into and tub the body for more tire clearance, this will keep the body mount (even chopped) from being the limiter.

I was considering this awhile back. Would probably go for it if I was going for 35s. Saving money instead for the RCLT lol

NTK FAB has a chop kit as well. I considered it but wanted the option to go much bigger in tire size than the standard 285s we all do. This is a step towards 35 inch tires for me. As I get more and more into offroading the 4R, ground clearance is a must. Plus 35s make every truck look cooler.

I may be tubbing in the future. Right now the beauty is I don't need my alignment changed to stop rubbing on 285/75. I know every truck is different and there are more than one way to address this. For me the relocation made sense for long term plans.

I've been stalking your build for a while! I think this is a great mod for those going bigger. BMC definitely works but this opens up so much clearance.

Interesting!

Although, this looks more like a aftermarket replacement and not so much a relocation. It is nearly in the same spot just a more compact body mount.

That's a good point. A few other companies offer similar ideas but most everybody goes for the BMC plate. I personally think relocation/replacement is the way to go if you're doing more than mall crawlin'.

Yeah I have seen people hacking that mount almost as long as 5th gens have been around. I like the idea of a the full replacement concept as opposed to cutting an engineered mount and welding a patch plate on it.

As for mall crawlin, I think to say that the idea is sound if you want anything bigger than a 33" tire or wider than 12", nothing really to do with how you use the truck

They haven't listed it yet but I'm making a guess atm based on the cost of the LT coilovers and RCV axles ($3600). Budgeting a bit more above that cost lol

Nice work. It yields more clearance, I’ll be doing this in the near future.. with 35’s you need all the clearance you can get. For 33’s it’s really unnecessary.

It does seem to provide a bit more clearance in the rubbing areas. A few folks I know who run 35s found this to work better than just a super aggressive bmc. One guy (Svein?) I think runs 37s with it.
