As a Jeep guy, I always wanted to try a 4R. I'm so glad I did. I can't see myself ever driving a Jeep again.

As my “About me” page states: I have been daily driving Toyota 4x4 trucks since my first new one in 1982. I was finally able to get into a 4Runner in 2001 and had it for almost 18 years until I sold it and got a new 2018 Pro just over a couple of years ago.

Mentioned it before but always worth mentioning again. The 4Runner is my first Toyota that I've owned but it was the experience that my parents have had with their first Toyotas. After years of buying American vehicles (mainly GM) my dad felt that he needed to make a change. At the time, we were a hockey and soccer family and my parents both had sizable commutes for work. We did a lot of driving and the American vehicles never died gracefully. It was in March 2005 that my dad made the switch to Toyota with purchasing a new Tacoma Double Cab SR5. The rest is history. Outside of his frame being recalled back in 2015(?), the Tacoma has been rock solid. He has over 225K miles on it. My mom made the switch in March 2010 and purchased (brand new) the Venza. She currently has over 191K miles on the ODO. Same story: its been rock solid for her all these years. I bought my 4Runner brand new back in May 2017. I'm dropping off the 4Runner for its 105K-Mile Maintenance Servicing tomorrow. Pre-Coronavirus, I was averaging 3K miles/mo. No issues. I won't buy any vehicle that doesn't have the Toyota (Lexus) emblem on it.

I traded a German endless money pit into 4Runner.
Life is much better now.

Question

it’s threads like this that make me happy about my purchase.

i went from a modified and money pit Nissan 350z
to a Jeep XJ with minimal mods
to this beauty. 2020 TRD Pro that i have owned for exactly a year now and due to covid restrictions ; already took her all across NY state.

Could see myself with this truck for a while unless the future gens would be more efficient for road travel. But i don’t have any complaints about mine

Thought I had my last 4runner, till I totaled it. Sadly good affordable 4runners are very few and far between up here. Looking for a 2010-2015 ( price budget).
Hope the 5th gens are as reliable as the 3rd gens.
Subaru seems to be the car of choice by many up here, but Id rather spend the extra money to get a good 4runner. We have a subie and a taco in the family, and Id rather drive the taco. There is just something about yotas.

I do hope to find a 5th gen, as a op above stated, will prob outlast me.
