Front suspension upgrade suggestions

Currently using stock control arms, stock springs, Bilsteins 5100s up front. OME 2895 springs and Bilsteins 5100s in the rear.

Have added weight in the front with a Victory 4x4 steel bumper. Will add full skids and possibly a rear bumper from Victory in the near future.

Contemplating upgrading to this kit and a pair of Nolathane UCAs for the front: 521600-KIT - Toytec 3" lift front coil spring kit

The current Bilsteins have about 40k miles on them (mostly hwy driving). How long do those typically last?

Any downside to the Toytec kit? When I eventually upgrade the shocks, I’ll likely go with the 6112s or something similar.

Thoughts? Recommendations? Feedback?

I don't know how close all "600lb" springs actually are in real rating and performance but the Bilstein 600lb spring I had was very different from the Dobinsons 590lb spring I had, meaning the Bilstein felt a lot softer despite the nominally higher rating.

So how this would feel will be guess work. I have also read that the 5100 are really meant to be used with the stock springs.

I'd say go straight to the 6112. The 6112 with 600lb springs is superb on road but too soft for my offroad use. The 6112 with 650lb is perfect for my offroading but just right (not plush) on road. So, for you, it would come down to the actual weight of that bumper and to the question of whether you want plush ride over choppy streets or higher speeds offroad. The 650lb work better in rocks as well. Another consideration is that the 600lb springs on the 6112 worked very well with SL tires but the 6112 on 650lb springs work better with LTE tires (meaning the ride is better with the heavier tires).

So, you gotta look at all these factors: driving priorities, tires, front weight. The best solution will make the three work in concert.

Thanks for the feedback!

I'm definately leaning towards the 650 or 700lb springs as 6112 shocks. the bumper and Warn S10 winch are quite hefty. I don't have any complaints with the 5100s in regards to ride quality, so I think the slight upgrade would be ideal. I don't drive it daily anymore, but mainly weekend driving with occasional offroading.

My buddy once told me:

"buy once, cry once"

I went ahead and got kings after 3 years of ownership. My perspective is - if you're going to upgrade anyway, how much more would it be to get what you'd prefer vs what you're trying to spend? I started off with TRD Pro suspension, then upgraded my coils which gave me a lift. Now I have the kings as they're rebuildable but also height adjustable up front.

Keeping your goals in mind should probably the top motivation for your upgrade. Are you daily driving this and upgrading for comfort? Is this for a weekend warrior?

I'm not sure what springs are compatible with the 5100's but 6112's are 2.5" shocks so most suspension manufacturers can provide the spring rates you're looking for (e.g. King, Icon, Eibach). Something to keep in mind is the money you're going to spend in total - upfront costs and backend (servicing/replacing).

Perhaps I just confused you even more but at least you'll have more info to work with

Thanks for the responses. My rig is mainly a weekend warrior with several Offroad days a year. I’m now leaning towards the Boss Allum 2.0 or 2.5 kit (front and rear). I is a good compromise that I won’t regret later on.

700lbs sounds like a lot. I know people with steel bumpers, winch, dual batteries up front that say 700lbs is still too stiff. I'd go 650lbs. I think as long as you go with the Elka built Toytecs you'll be good. They typically have a 15% off sale for BF so look out for deals within the next month or so.
