Scotty Kilmer(?) did one on Toyota’s in general and also on the 4Runners. Went into the philosophy of the engineers and workers.

Has anyone come up with a guard or idea to protect the neutral safety switch? Has anyone ever experienced an issue related to the neutral safety switch?

Yes, yes I have. Some threads for reference.

First issue with my truck, any ideas what's wrong?

I’ve seen some threads about replacing them. Mostly corrosion related problems, IIRC. Don’t believe I’ve read of one damaged from debris or mud and don’t know of a guard.

Wouldn’t some dielectric grease prevent that?

To an extent..like he said in the video it's not a huge problem, just a minor weakness.

My '92 Bronco has that switch in the exact same place and they were known to have issues with water intrusion, so much that in later models years Ford upgraded the connector..

I've spent a lot of time in mud and deep water crossings and maybe had a problem with it once or twice..

I would hold the guy in the video's opinion in high regard because he's obviously an expert in toyota engines and transmissions. What I want the truck to do is go 300+k with minimal issues, and this guy explains exactly why it can do that.
