Lights for offroading in the dark?

I've tried to look into lighting, but mostly what I've been able to find is amber vs white (and the graduation inbetween) along with lots and lots of talk about how lights look in both light quality and with the truck.

I'm a bit more concerned about picking out auxiliary lighting that I... need?

I recently drove down a forestry road for about 1hr in the dark. I had my lights on + fog lights, occasionally trying high beams but didn't really notice any benefit.

A few things I noticed:
- Turns were a bit iffy as the sides were just completely in the dark - I almost always knew exactly where the "road" was, but was less sure about what obstacles may lie on the road off to the side as I'm turning
- I could see rocks/small boulders on the road, but found it much more difficult to see washouts and divots in the road, especially just how "deep" they were.

My lighting is stock in my 2020. It was otherwise a clear night - no rain/dust/fog. I've never added extra lighting to any of my cars. I *think* what I want is improved visibility (flood?) along with improved contrast, however I get that? Amber lights? Would a better light down low work for this, or what about light bar on rack? Would a light bar vs a single light on left and right make any difference vs standard light bar?

If anyone has any links for some good advice/guidance on selecting offroad lighting, ignoring the specific makers or what looks better on a rig, would love to read up more! Have no interest in wasting money adding a bunch of unnecessary lights

DD SS3 sport. That should do it if you aren't doing Baja style stuff. Ambers mainly if you want to cut through fog/snow. Ambers are also easier for the eyes to focus on so can help let others see you in inclement weather.

I haven't purchased this yet but it could be a relatively cheap way to get more lighting without going for a bunch of light bars. Maybe add this and upgrade your fog lights.
