Backspace sounds OK, but will it clear the brake caliper?

I bought one (different brand) like that for a spare, it does not clear the front caliper.

Unhappy

Doesn’t clear front calipers??? That doesn’t make sense, these wheels are pushed out away further making more backspace no? Can anyone else chime i. Before I jump on these and possibly make a mistake ...

I have 17x9, 4.5 and -12 and fits fine. The 4'' backspace is the question.

It's not the backspacing, its the shape of the center disc. A flat transition from the hub to the rim does not work.

The calipers protrude outboard past the wheel-mounting surface of the hub enough to hit the wheel if the wheel is not a bit convex, like the inside part of a donut (a torus).

The ones linked in my response hit the caliper. If your wheels are shaped like those, they will not work.

Make sure you get a return policy before you buy those.

Don’t they All have to have a flat part on hub? To make constant contact where they bolt on no?

Yes, but the part of the wheel between that area and the rim has to be convex in profile, or it will interfere with the caliper.

Caliper in red, hub light blue, wheel yellow (and dk blue). Crudely drawn in from the side perspective of a wheel.

I've ran 17"x8" wheels before.
Mine had 4.5" backspacing and +0mm offset.

Your wheels would be the same as mine, but sticking out further. Being that both wheels are the same width, we can simply conclude that it should fit (if they were the same design as mine), but yours having more "poke".

You'll have 12mm more "poke", and thus, 12mm less backspace.. or in this case, about 0.5" less of backspace. Your wheel moves "outward". The important aspect is really the design of the spokes.

Anyway, I'm on 17"x9" now and I have even less backspacing lol
