Thanks for the tips. I knew they were doing it, but didn't know how to stop it.

My folks where so honked off at the dealer they drove back the next day and said they wanted out of all it.
But I'll share your data points so they can ensure they are fully opted out.
Thank you, Much appreciated.

For those using the Toyota application, you can scroll down to the "Data Consent & Terms" and opt out of Service Connect Communication as well as the Auto Insurance Designed for You. Neither will in anyway change anything on your end, but it will secure some of your personal information.
Secondly, contact 855-226-4048 and request three things; i. a copy of your personal data collected, ii. removal of your personal data, iii. you revocation of your personal data being sold. Toyota will email or physical mail you their receipt of your requests, then they will take their sweet time in addressing them. They will usually require verification and then take even longer. Its normal process, a pain in your butt to waste the precious 10 minutes.. but in the end, it secures some of your personal information moving forward.
These steps also do not in any negative way impact you or your enjoyment of your vehicle. You can continue to use all the same features as before.
If you have any questions, write them. I'll address what I can. Godspeed.

Ok so this stops Toyota from selling your data however it doesn’t stop them from collecting your data. Is that correct?
I do like the GPS the vehicle has in case its stolen and I do use the internet hotspot (my SR5P has its own phone number after I signed up). If you check out the plan for unlimited data in my truck its actually a pretty good deal compared to unlimited data on my cell phone. I’m still using the free data they gave me.
I dont have any problem with getting emails/text from the dealership I selected reminding my I need to do maintenance. I use the Toyota app with the manuals and the fuel level and tire pressures often.
I have been getting ALOT more robo calls on my iPhone in the lsat 6 months. I dont know if this is related to this or not.

Your smart phone collects just as much if not more data about your habits. Better turn off that "pocket spy" if this kind of stuff worries you.

you can also do this at Toyota - Lexus Privacy Hub
but you have to submit a separate request to "do not sell" and "delete my info"
edit - and this was hidden in the comment response to my "do not sell" request
"Please be advised that exercising your rights with us does not also exercise your rights with any Toyota, Lexus, or Scion dealers, local Toyota dealer associations, private distributors, Toyota Financial Services, Lexus Financial Services or Toyota Insurance Management Solutions."
So this request doesn't cover dealers.

I found this in my OBD2, Toyota had no ****ing clue. I pulled it and low and behold all the emails etc. reminding me of my service weren't accurate. Not sure if all cars got them but mine did.

We all know we can't completely go off grid, but every little thing helps and takes away some annoying emails and junk mail.

Of course it does, but you have control over that to an extent, just like this information allows you some control over the data being collected without your knowledge.
I'll make my own choices about that if I know where/how to do so. In some instances the services provided outweigh the privacy concerns, in some case they don't. My data, my choice, right?

I have not received all the literature that I have requested, as of yet. What I have read details that we can stop the selling of data, and the collection of most. However, in order to stop the data collection you need to forfeit several creature comforts like the use of the app for up to date information, remote start, and the on-board push for help button. Unfortunately stopping data collection is near impossible lately so the idea here is to limit it. Making Toyota keep it in house is still decreasing your information being shared, many many times over.
I am confident those robocalls are related.
Also, where in the app can you see the tire pressure??

Post your name, address, phone number, and credit card information here. Also, post every place you park and how fast you drive. Its not about being "worried" its about protecting your rights.

Click “my garage” at the very top of the first screen.
