People are uneducated and complacent. They forfeit their rights and then simply write it off as paranoia of others. Its unfortunate.

Other maker forums have reported those. That is almost always installed by the dealer. Other times, by a jealous spouse or someone in the household complying with insurance plans.

That's true in a greater sense than just privacy protections. Unfortunate is putting it lightly.

I was just pointing out that there are many other forms of this going on all around you in everyday life. You obviously took it as an insult, which was not my intention.

If you believe the Toyota monitoring is such a big infringement on your rights then by all means do what ever you can to end it. You seem obsessed with this sort of thing so maybe you should live in a faraday room the rest of your life so you will feel safe.

Hello, I would like to share my recent experience on this subject. I have read this privacy issue thread shortly after my 4runner purchase in July and and have initiated 2 actions---called Toyota to cancel any subscription services such as toyota connect, something like desitination assist etc. and requested Toyota (via this forum's links) do not sell my personal data and delete my personal data. Today i have received 3 updated emails indicating my requests been processed. What shocks me (when checking their data) is the personal data report they have generated and sold before my data delete/stop sell requests have been made. This includes my demographic (including estimated net worth such as housing price degrees career, contact info, all Toyota purchase history, etc details. The report is very detail and extensive (more than 30 pages long) and the worst is the one that confirm my driving behavior/data already sold to insurance companies and other commercial interests. The report lists extensive information about me as a consumer and how TOyota has monetized it in just 1 month time following my purchase of the car. I am very unhappy about this.... While i have little faith in Toyota has deleted my data for good, in coming months i will be watching out for any contacts made by anyone who may have purchased my data. This is extremely poor how they are using buyers info to their financial gain. Lastly, i found a schematics where DCM transmitter is located (it is lower right side of the infotainment unit behind the cover). I have yet to go pull the plug yet ...

Everyone knows its present everywhere. Mitigating it to the best of one's ability is all that can be done. As there are things that you can do for your vehicle, the same can be said for your phone.

Clearly you are attempting to make all of this an insult. Its the internet, I couldn't care less about angry little guys like you. Imagine not commenting on something that doesn't apply to you. Clearly, if you look at the thread, its helped others. Feel free to keep it moving.

Thanks for sharing that. I am glad you got it worked out. I am interested in seeing what Toyota has on me as well.

As I said, no insult intended, and I am not angry or little.
You may not believe it, but there are those with opinions that differ from yours.

You are correct about one thing, I should not have butted in on your party.

Keep it moving, little fella. When you post stuff like "you should live in a faraday room the rest of your life so you will feel safe" and "Better turn off that "pocket spy" if this kind of stuff worries you" you're trying your best but you're just not very bright so it falls short. Glad we agree. Enjoy your other threads, peanut.

Thanks for this detail. Did you finance thru Toyota? Wonder if that gave them access to a deeper level of personal info.

For those using the Toyota application, you can scroll down to the "Data Consent & Terms" and opt out of Service Connect Communication as well as the Auto Insurance Designed for You. Neither will in anyway change anything on your end, but it will secure some of your personal information.

Secondly, contact 855-226-4048 and request three things; i. a copy of your personal data collected, ii. removal of your personal data, iii. you revocation of your personal data being sold. Toyota will email or physical mail you their receipt of your requests, then they will take their sweet time in addressing them. They will usually require verification and then take even longer. Its normal process, a pain in your butt to waste the precious 10 minutes.. but in the end, it secures some of your personal information moving forward.

These steps also do not in any negative way impact you or your enjoyment of your vehicle. You can continue to use all the same features as before.

If you have any questions, write them. I'll address what I can. Godspeed.
Thank you for the heads up. I completed the steps in the app you suggested. I then called the number you gave and the call taker stated they do not keep personal information and then forwarded me to the Toyota safety sense who also said they don't collect personal information nor sell the information. The 2nd call person said the only time the get my information is when you push the button in the cab requesting their help.

Not sure how to or who to speak with about them collecting personal information at this point.

Actually I have been thinking about this...BTW i purchased my 4runner w/ trade in and cash. No financing. My best guess is they obtained my personal info from driver's license (they xerox copy) and title info on my trade in. There was a form i had to fill out where it asked for my SSN (as if i am financing but since i block any credit info they would not have gone far). My previous Toyota purchase (2 cars ago) was financed and there is a good chance they obtained my personal info from that application--that was for 2009 Corolla. That car was totaled in 2012 by someone running into me and this record of disposal is also noted in the report (albeit via VIN tracking). This just tells me that Toyota keeps info about you forever and do not really delete anything. Again just need to be careful on what you want to share w/ them otherwise they will monetize your info.

Cheers.
