Rear "4RUNNER" emblem.. anyone regret?

I searched and didn't come up with too many results, and even fewer photos. Looked kind of nice from what I did see. Currently have the black emblem overlays, but was curious to hear if anyone has done it and regretted the look. I don't have an eye to remove it and put it back on if I hate it so.. thought I'd ask first. Thank you!

I would love to hear someone’s experience with removing these blackout kits. Does the adhesive destroy the chrome emblems when pulling off?

It's just adhesive tape. Heat it up and pry off with plastic pry thinging. Clean the sticky stuff of with goo gone.

Worst case you take the original ones off with it.

Worried about it, buy the over lays and use some cheap double sided tape and run them for a a few days.

I meant removing the "4RUNNER" entirely. So it would just be the black handle underneath.

Didn't realize that's what you meant Pointman. Here is an old post where some guys pulled it off and wrapped them, and a youtube video of a guy pulling that part off. Looks like there are some locator dimples in that plastic so it might not be as clean as you would think removing the letters. not sure if you're looking for this or an opinion. mine is that the dimples without the letters make it look awkward. =)

Anyone remove the 4runner emblem on a 5th generation?

I've had mine off to replace a damaged garnish. There are square alignment dimples underneath on the garnish itself. It doesn't look so good without the emblem in my opinion. Looks unfinished. My original intent was to leave it off but I ended up spending the additional money to put it back the way it came.

Which color makes the 4Runner faster or provides better gas mileage?

No problem. Full disclosure... I can laugh about it now. I was using a heat gun to "gently" warm up the adhesive prior to sliding fishing line underneath to remove the 4Runner Emblem. it was in the 30s in my garage. I got it too hot. When I removed the emblem, there were two spots on the plastic garnish that had deformed, started to melt, ruined. I had to order a new, pre-painted garnish, new emblems and overlays in order to fix my F'up.

The car was about 3 weeks old. You would think, no big deal to R&R but not so. There is actually a lot going on there. You have to remove the interior gate back panel and a bunch of other hardware, including a moisture barrier and electrical connections to get that piece of plastic off. The lights, lock and latch assembly has to be removed and mounted to the new garnish. A new seal has to be meticulously installed on the garnish perimeter so water doesn't end up inside the gate. Everything has to be reassembled and new emblems installed (straight).

You can't tell I was ever there, but it was a several beer job, only to find the dimples underneath made it look unfinished and to end up right back where I started about $235, several hours and lots of stress later. So yeah, regrets. There, I got that off my chest. Glad I shared. Don't tell anyone, you are the only one who knows that happened.

haha! Awesome share! Thanks for that. Made me laugh for sure. Sounds like something I would do, so no judgment. I am learning.. and by learning, I know ask you guys before I do something that I know will probably end up an ordeal far larger than what I was hoping it would be.

I peeled mine off in 2010. It’s been off for 10 years and I don’t regret it at all.

I removed the emblem off my 2012 as a soon as I got it home. The dimples are noticeable but not to bad.
