Portal Axles
I came across these portal axles made from Ukraine company called DV Max Offroad Tuning. It looks interesting, as there are not much IFS portal axles on the market, I thought I would share it here.
They don't have 4Runner over there, but they managed to put on FJ cruiser, 200 series, JK wrangler, Y61 Patrol and some other vehicles as well.
From the video they posted, looks like they really put the system to test.

I don't suppose anyone has any more details? My google-fu basically just results in instagram.
I'm guessing this a is a retrofit from something else, Humvee maybe? I noticed they had CTIS on some of the vehicles in the video.
Hard to tell for sure from the 1 posted picture, but I have some serious durability concerns about what I can see on that spindle. What is going on with the steering?

I managed to dig up more photos from their facebook. Most likely ideas from unimog.

I guess the stock spindle is in there somewhere. Interesting they are still rocking the stock UCA, not that it matters much with a high UCA design. Apparently the thing that looks like a solid axle tie rod is just some reinforcement.
What tires are those? They look like bias-ply Trepadors from the inside, but the tread pattern isn't quite right.

Wouldn't be a Unimog gearset as they only have 2 gears which require the input to be reverse of output direction. This would have most likely a 4 gear design with 2 idler gears to get same direction input as output. Pretty cool but the problem with portal boxes is they can't handle speed and overheat. Definitely interested in finding out more info.

Can see in this video that they still have the ABS sensors in place. Pretty cool. Жесткий off-road Toyota FJ Cruiser на колесных редукторах DV MAX. - YouTube
Also if you scroll all the way to the bottom they have pictures of it being assembled. They use straight cut gears. FJ Cruiser, Prado(120, 150), Hilux, Tacoma, Fortuner, 4Runner - Деталь внедорожникаДеталь внедорожника
They drive pretty hard on chunky 37 inch tires so they have to be pretty stout. Wonder if someone will order up a kit here. Be pretty sick for snow wheeling.

Very cool setup. I think those are volvo C303 portal gears in modified boxes. Max Drive or something like that used to make them for toyotas IIRC, but stopped a while ago. Like 15 years ago. Maybe someone else has taken the project forward or started something new? They definitely have the volvo portal design and the gears look like the volvo C303 setup.
They are highway speed capable - but not super strong. I think they're limited to 35" tires in most cases. Or at least the old ones were. These say 37's on the website. And 18.5" of ground clearance.
This company lists the price for a custom set at 11k euro. But they also have kits for all 4 wheels for an FJ cruiser that should fit the 4Runner. But no price that I can see. It does appear to be pretty comprehensive with all the new axle shafts and brakes that you'll need. But who knows. Looks pretty badass though!

I'd think it would need it just by past experiences with toyotas bomber steering racks...
Damn that is a chunky tire!
This and a tummy tuck would be pretty slick, literally

The price list shows 7500 for the toyota applications. Comparing visually the drive gear size it looks to be a little bigger than a C303. And they do hammer on them pretty hard with the 37" Treps. Maybe they make their own gears or source it off something else. Also when I refer to high speed I'm talking higher than 65mph. They do get hot.

Hey guys! I'm glad that our products arouse your interest)
My name is Denis, I am CEO of DV MAX, our company is located in Ukraine. All of our portal gearboxes are 100% developed by our engineers. We make all parts ourselves, including gears and shafts.
The gear reduction in our portals is 1:1.35, this allows us to mount 38.5-inch wheels.
We have been testing our portals for a year and a half on various levels of off-road vehicles and so far we have not had a single overheat or breakdown.
Now we are ready to sell kits for NISSAN PATROL, JEEP WRANGLER JK,JL,JT, Land Rover Defender. Soon TOYOTA FJ, 4Runner, Tacoma, Land Cruiser 200. Lexus GX and LX. Also finished the Toyota Land Cruiser 70 series (71, 76, 79) for series production.
I'll be happy to answer any questions you may have in person here or at my email [email protected]

Prices for our kits range from $12750 to $16500
Unfortunately I don't have the ability to post pictures of our work here, but you can look at our website or on our Instagram or FB.
I would like your friends to know more about us and be able to ask me any question so you would not think we remake VOLVO )))
