HELP: ARB On-Board Air Wiring

I have the ARB single compressor (not dual). Looked at other wiring threads, but they seemed focused on wiring to an AOB switch.
Want to wire with simple on/off switch next to compressor (not in cabin) and do not have lockers.

Wiring diagram attached with my markings of wires I do not need.

Can I just wire:
-RED, BLK-WHT to battery
-RED off pressure switch, BLK off BLK-WHT wire to the on/off switch
-use relay (needed?)

What kind of switch are you going to be using? I have the same compressor but using the switch that it came with so the wiring was pretty straightforward. However, I would recommend to use a relay since most of these switches can only handle a couple amps.

Probably just a simple toggle switch. Mainly due to ease of mounting under the hood. I have a few sitting around from KC Hilites.
Makes sense on using the relay.

Did you just wire it for the compressor (no lockers)? Is the ignition wire into the switch just for the switch to work? I understand that the car should be on, so this is just a safety precaution? That is what I interpret from the wiring diagram.

Mine is not wired for any lockers. I have mine setup to use the rocker switch that it came with and the vehicle must be turned on to use. Going from memory, that ignition may be the power to the switch, then once used will activate the relay and provide the power to the compressor.

Hey @Mudhorn - can you let us know how you ended up wiring things here so that other folks can find the information here? Thanks!

The line to ignition is just so the compressor can only run if the car is on, regardless of switch position.

If you ran this to unswitched power, or direct to the battery, it would be able to run without the engine running (bad)

The illumination line is for the light in the switch itself. If hooked to the dash illumination circuit, the little light will only come on when the dash is illuminated.

Easy move here is the splice the Dash illum and ignition lines together, and then tie into ignition switched power.

When done, the switch will illuminate when the car is on, and the compressor will only function if the engine is on.

EDIT: USE THE RELAY. Most little toggle switches aren't going to handle 40A for long, or at all.

I wired it up last week. The switch lights up without the illumination line when the switch is on. I finally figured out after staring at the wiring diagram until I was blind the multiple purposes for the ignition line. Runs great and agree that I wouldn’t run it without the car on. Interesting that one of the troubleshooting steps is turning it on when the car is off.

Went the simple route with no lockers.
Positive wire directly to the battery.
Tied both negative wires together and directly to the battery.
Ran the ignition line to my Bussman (used a constant draw slot). My brain was hurting to try too many attempts with a switch slot.
Used the relay.
Used the ARB switch and housing it in a project box (thanks to @jrandom ) next to the compressor.
The switch illuminates when turned on without needing the illumination wire.
Bound all the wire together and weatherproofed it.

I like having the switch next to the compressor. Have the air chuck inserted right now so the overpressure switch will keep the compressor off in case the switch is left on. I still don’t want it running when the car is on.
