TPMS opinion
All
Just bought 21 SR5P. Ordered TRD wheels and new tires. Am I better off having the tire shop break down my existing wheels and tires and use the TPMS, or buy a set and use them with the new wheels and tires? I was probably going to try and sell the factory wheels and tires.
Didn't know if you run the risk of damaging the TPMS while swapping. But seems like it would be easier to link to the vehicle.
Thanks for your help

Yeah you can reinstall them, but you'll find it not worth the trouble or cost compared to buying new ones.

If you’re selling the original wheels, I would say to move the sensors onto the new wheels.
I have a spare set of rims that I bought TPMS “sensors” for that replace the caps for the valve stems, and the gauge plugs into the lighter in the center console. The gauge displays PSI for each tire.
I didn’t want to deal with paying a dealer to reprogram for different sensors every few months.

I never put my TPMS back on, haven't been bothered one bit. If it could actually read and display my individual tire pressures, then that would be a different story, but it doesn't. But I can see the value if you don't adjust your tire pressures often or at all.

If you do decide to get new sensors, be sure to buy genuine Toyota OEM sensors. Most of the non-OEM sensors sold by tire stores are junk.

For Toyota, you are correct. But many car companies show the actual pressure at each tire -- GM cars for one.

TPMS opinion
I just wired around the TPMS, no matter what, it always shows good. No warning light, nothing.

Of course, but this is a Toyota 4Runner forum. It should be obvious that my opinion relates only to the vehicle that this website is named after.

tpms
Def cheaper 4 will cost you about 80$ . I switched mine but bought new gasket kit about 6$ a piece but 21' shouldn't need too ! I like them just due to fact that sometimes get lazy & don't look at them ! Nowadays always picking a screw or nail and just don't know till next morning & bam flat tire as your running late to work

I did not switch mine over when I changed wheels. Could not get them to read correctly with the 4R (aftermarket). Dealership wanted way too much to “fix” the issue. Probably could have found a shop to do it better. I just did the wiretap instead (quick temporary solution).

My dealer was incapable of activating and programing "aftermarket" Denso 550-0103 TPMS Sensors. They are the Toyota sensors. Exclusively for the value of not needing to deal with TPMS programming, use the existing TPMS sensors. Ur current TMPS sensors are new (battery life), and you are selling the wheels. Just swap the sensors, it'll be easier.

The 2020+ displays individual tire pressures in the gauge cluster FWIW.

In that case, I would transfer them over if I was in OP's position. The pre-2020 version is basically useless as far as I'm concerned.
