Thinking of going from 35's to 37's

I took advantage of the Black Friday sale AFC was having and purchased their fenders. The fenders have a 3" flare and 2" rise. I think we these fenders, I should now be able to clear 37" tires (I currently have 35s and they fit fine). I believe the front will fit, my question is will the rears fit or will I have to make more modifications in back to make it work.

Who has 37s and what did you do in the back to make them fit, if anything? Please let me know, thanks.

Thanks, from his build it looks like the rears fit fine. I think with the glass fenders up front, I should be good to go. I've already done a lot of work like bending back or trimming pinch welds, etc.

Id be more concerned about reliability of steering and drivetrain components than clearance when you go that big. When increasing the rolling mass that dramatically OEM components are destined to fail. It's probably fine for pavement and forest service road folks but not so much for people who drive offroad with any significance.

If I was looking at 37s I would do this instead of chopping the body apart. Moves the front LCA forward up to 1". The front seems to have much more room for clearance.

This is the solution. The marlin crawler long travel setup works great. The original Marlon crawler truck before the Marlin crawler long travel in-house design used an all-pro long travel that was relocated forward about 2 inches. That worked really well also. And that clears 40s. front range off road also has a 3rd gen 4Runner with a very similar setup.

At some point the axles are going to find the limit with the weight of the 4Runner and bigger tires. The steering rack is another concern id have. I'm not sure if you'll break it or not, but what I found is when I'm bound up in the rocks even on 34-in tires I sometimes can't turn. It simply doesn't have enough force and short of trying to really crank the steering wheel and break something, It just doesn't have enough force in the rack to move. I think that's why the Marlin system uses a heavy duty tundra size steering rack.

I'm not worried about parts breaking, that is part and parcel of the hobby. I am worried about clearance. If I can't clear them, then I can't put them on, so no need to worry about things breaking. If you are worried about parts breaking, don't modify your 4Runner and stay on paved roads.

If I listened to all the nay-sayers, I wouldn't have 35's, a supercharger, 4.88 gears, and I would never do the trails that I have done.

As far as going big or going home... I agree!!! Believe me, if I could fit 40's I'd get them, forget 39's!
