Remove the 2021 4Runner Dual USB charger & replace it with a normal power socket?

Hi,

I’m looking to pick up a 2021 SR5 Premium and lots of them have the dual USB power charger installed as an option.

I’d want to replace that with a normal power socket and put my radar detector plug in charger there, so just checking if that is possible? My radar detector has a silence button on it on the plug that makes it a lot more useful.

Most of the time these things are easy to remove, but just thought I’d check. Here is a picture for reference so bottom right of the dash.

They did away with all the cigarette type power sockets for '21? Hard to believe. On my 2018 SR5, there is one on the lower dash, one inside the center console, two on the back of the center console for passengers, and one back in the cargo area.

You don't say what brand radar detector you have, but for my Valentine one, there are adapters available to plug into the back of the rear view mirror. There may be such an adapter for your radar detector.

Perhaps there is a mirror power adapter for your radar detector similar to this one: results-mirrortap

I just installed one of these to have some always-on ports. Easy mod.

https://amzn.to/2Wafe95

I put it in the one open switchplate below and to the right of the steering wheel.

Shorter cords can be used as well which I like.

arouth needs an old fashioned cigarette lighter socket to plug in his radar detector. Radar detectors can use more power than what a USB can deliver, so they seldom plug into USB. Apparently they have done away with cigarette lighter sockets on the '21 4Runner dash.

At least on the base SR5, it's still there in the pics on the build your 2021 4Runner page on Toyota's website.

My 2021 has a cigarette plug. Right next to the usb port to plug your phone in for the radio.

I think some of the builds replace the dash 12V w/dual USB. I would think that you could swap back fairly easy as it is either a dealer or port-installed option.

My '21 Venture has the 12 volt outlet (cigarette lighter) next to the USB connection for the entune system. I have seen some that had the dual USB power outlets in that spot where I have the 12v outlet.

I wonder how they decide which trucks get which type of outlet? It's not listed anywhere as an option so it seems random.

I have the 2021 Limited and mine came with 12v cigarette lighter outlet. The dual USB ports in place of this plug is an option. It’s on the Toyota page 2021 Toyota 4Runner Interior Accessories

The dual USB is an option in the '21's. Some come through with the dual USB's, others have the cigarette lighter type power port. There is also a cigarette type power port in the armrest (pretty sure it's standard) but that probably is inconvenient for a radar detector.

Do you know if that dual USB port can be purchased? I’m trying to find one like it.

I think the USB port is a “port” installed option for vehicles in Toyota’s southeast region that replaces the cigarette lighter socket from the factory. Toyota Part number 00016-00225. The OP seems to be in GA SO makes sense.

I would think a search of Toyota parts would result in finding the original lighter socket.

Does anyone know of a similar product without LEDs? I want to add a dual port charger to my 2020 TRDORP and there seems to be a decent number of options but they all have LEDs of some sort. Looking for one without. Don't mean to hijack thread, have not reached my number to start new thread yet.
