new 2021 TRD premium
Sold my 2011 SR5 on Tuesday (to a used car dealer). I put it on Craigslist and got a few responses. I think I got a fair price...92800 miles and two accidents on Carfax.
We went to the dealer Friday (12/12) and that we bought the 2011 from and bought a 2021 TRD Premium. It just arrived. My bride asked the salesman if he could find a silver w/ moon roof and running boards. He found one that was just delivered...not even prepped yet. Perfect timing!
Way too much tech for an old dog like me! No CD played (we listen to audio books when we travel), no remote start (I thought it was standard equipment because I didn't see it as an option on any of the trucks we checked out. No drop down holder for my sun glasses in the overhead.
Anybody have suggestions as to a CD player, remote start or the 100K / 10 yr service agreement (1999.00 plus tax).
Appreciate the help.

CD player - assuming you have an iPhone or an Android phone, ditch the CDs and sign up for audiobooks at audible and play them via bluetooth. Waaaaaay more convenient. You'll never look back.
Can't help you on the other ones, sorry.

Toyota has an OEM add on remote start that goes at least through the 2019 4Runner : PT39889140 - Remote Engine Starter - Genuine Toyota Accessory Note: the part number works for both the push button start, and the regular key start vehicles, BUT there are different installation instructions for it depending on what start version you have.
There are aftermarket (non-Toyota) remote starts, but I wouldn't trust them for they often butcher the wiring for installation which will void your warranty.
With synthetic oil, your 4Runner needs an oil change once a year (the six month service is just a tire rotation), thus your service agreement would be for 10 services at $200 each. That seems high to me. (Remember, all new Toyotas sold in the US come with FREE scheduled maintenance for the first two years, so be sure any extended maintenance agreement starts after that)

It's not actually a service agreement, although that's what the brochure is labeled. It is actually an extension of the warranty for 10 /100K. The salesman pointed out the cost of the repairs to the electrical and electronic systems. Kind of scary. I was just wondering about peoples experiences.

$2000 sounds high for just an extension from 36 to 100k. It sounds like it may include both scheduled maintenance and warranty?
If so, should should look closer at the contract to see if that is something you would like. I am at 5 years 54k and do all my own maintenance and no issues so far.
Did your 2011 ever have any issues going 100k?

Generally these kinds of warranty extensions are a money maker for the dealers. Most people don’t use them to the point they pay for themselves. There are exceptions though. It’s like life insurance. You may not need it, or you might. It’s your call on the odds and risk you’re willing to take on. Personally, I bought the 4Runner in large part due to its reliability track record. I don’t expect to have any significant problems in the first 100k miles. I did not purchase an additional warranty on my 2020.

I don't have experience with the 4runner, but Toyota reliability is well-established and it may not pay out. We recently regretted not purchasing the extended warranty on another vehicle to the point where the extra $30-$40/month on our new T4R was a no-brainer just for the peace of mind. As you noted, electronics problems can add up quickly.
Addendum: extended warranties are not the scam they used to be. Vehicles last longer and are more difficult & costly to repair than previous generations.

FWIW, I spent like $3500 on an extended warranty for my 2016 Ford Mustang Ecoboost and it paid for itself and then some. It's not a Toyota though so not as reliable.

Press the lock button on the key fob three (3) times and hold it on the third press. That should be the remote start.

I am pretty sure maintenance for the 1st two years is covered by Toyota, though that may be dealer specific. The remaining maintenance (I believe) would be cheaper to do yourself, but if you are planning on going into the dealer for maintenance anyhow, might not be a bad idea to get the maintenance plan. Try to negotiate it down to $1500. As far as audiobooks, I listen to audiobooks as well (ALL THE TIME) but I do so from my Audible app on my iphone using Apple Car Play. Using either Apple car play/Android auto or simply as a Bluetooth audio source to your radio should solve the CD player for audiobooks problem.
As far as remote start, I also need to solve this but there appears to be a plug and play option for 2020’s for about $250 for remote start from Accessorides.com that might be the same is the 2021.

Tried that. My 2011 worked that way. There isn't any remote start listed on the window sticker and no option for one on the Toyota website.

I saw that...might be a springtime project. I wonder if it affects the warranty.

No issues at all. Only replaced shocks, brakes, battery and serpentine belt. The 2011 didn't have all the computer stuff and sensors that can go wrong. It also had bulbs not LED lights. The finance guy (tries to sell the extended warranty and wheel and tire care package along with lifetime oil changes) said that the tail light assembly has to be replaced if any of the LEDs goes bad. He said it will cost over $1000 for the assembly. VERY SCARY!!
