Noise behind dash when accessory is on.

Sounds sort of like a fan motor on very low speed but no air is coming thru. If I have the key turned to acc.
On my 2012 SR5 I can hear a distinct lo electric motor -like sound coming from behind the dash. It’s not at all noisy but definitely audible. When listening to music which requires the key turned to acc. is when I notice it. Any ideas?
Turn the music up? I don’t remember it doing this from day one, I purchased it new.

Many cars run the fan motor at low speed in the accessory mode to keep the air moving a bit.

Ok, didn’t know that. Had many cars over the years, this would be the first then. Thanks for the comment.

I’ve always assumed there’s a fan in the head unit but I’ve never taken it out to verify.

Yeah, I thought it might be a cooling fan for the CD player unit but it comes on whenever the accessory switch is on whether the CD player is on or not. Can’t hear it till the music pauses or is turned off.
Does sound about the same as the cooling fan in my laptop tho.

No touchscreens in my 2012 SR5. But I'm leaning toward some kind of cooling fan possibly for the radio/CD unit. I'm going to pay closer attention to the on/off timing pattern and see what the on trigger is.
