Rear Sliding Tray on 5th Gen

I was just informed by a dealer that the rear sliding tray cannot be added to a 5th Gen. Is this correct? I have a 2016 Trail Premium, and it appears from the info I can see in the forum that is it possible. Anyone offer any clarification? Thank you in advance.

Thank you! I saw this post, which is why I started checking around for one. According to the dealer, the sheet metal is different for the Trail Premium so perhaps the sliding try is not an option. Thanks again for the link!

It is interesting that the dealer don't want to deal with this at all---that was the one "Factory/Port" option-only that shut down several of the dealers that I contacted about vehicles. Just about anything else I asked for they could add on at the dealer but they consistently said the cargo tray was factory option.

I have your exact same 16 Trail Premium but mine came brand new with the sliding tray. To be honest, I see no value in this tray except it makes the whole back end one flat platform. My preference would be to get rid of the tray to gain my luggage room (room to open the fridge) but I do sleep in the back sometimes.

I added one to my 2015 Trail. Removed it when I sold it and added it to my 2020. Not a difficult DIY, one just has to be careful when exposing the bolt hole/threads as outlined in the link above.

Thank you! This is as I suspected. I have had a similar experience with this dealer in the past. Let me know if you ever want to part with your tray.

You cannot add the sliding tray if you have the third row seating, otherwise, it fits all 5th generation 4Runners.

You can add as I did to my 4runner. I had to drill out the sheet metal to get to the rear holes, but they are already embedded in the frame. I ended up taking mine out and went with a goose gear set up for my needs. PM me if you're looking for one as it looks like you are super...I'm in Oakland as well.

Final update: Thanks to Eldirector, who happened to have an unused rear sliding tray, I now have one installed! Conversely, I now have all the pieces I deinstalled if anyone is in the market.
Thank you all for commenting and recommending and responding!

Cool. I've been contemplating the same, primarily so I can have a flat area for sleeping when I'm camping with just the dog and myself. Being able to slide the fridge out a bit for easier access also seems like a helpful feature.

^^^I totally agree. I can’t figure out the attraction for the tray . I find it about one notch above useless. I’ve had my 2010 TE since I bought it new back then and have probably used the tray less than a dozen times .
Save your money.
