I've only seen 255/80/17 in E load. There doesn't seem to be a ton of choices in either 255/75/17 or 255/80/17 in the A/T world.

I wouldn't sweat an E load tire in this size for one second. If I hadn't known mine were E, I would have assumed they were either SL or C load. The ride quality is anything but harsh.

255/80/17 Falken Wildpeak AT3W. About 10k miles pavement and offroading on them and these tires are awesome. Excellent road manners including wet weather traction. Yes, all 255/80 are E load, because of the relatively tall sidewall, they need to be stiffer to avoid "rolling over". I had no trimming when I was on stock wheels- had to trim bumper, push fender liner, and remove mud flaps when I went to 17x8.5 -10mm wheels

265/70/17's for me. Mazama Open Ranges from Les Schwab. Very happy so far. I got them during the Founders day sale.
