Wasn’t thinking. Pulled into my mother in laws garage. Damage below.
Any suggestions?
Sand and spray paint?

I’d just sand, paint and forget about it.

I would remove it. Thats what I did because I hated the look of the rack. You gain so much clearance with stock roof rails.

This thing is such a stupid add on by toyota. I can't wait to get mine taken off when I swap out the tires and replace it with roof rails.
I've had more than one underground garage I couldn't enter b/c of this stupid basket

Replace it with useful rack or touch up. Does not look bad at all.

I knew it was good for something. Seriously, I would either put the standard roof rails on or get an aftermarket rack. Good luck with the touch up and sale.

I don’t get all the hatred towards the pro basket it dates all the way back to one of the best off roaders ever made the fj cruiser
I know the look is polarizing BUT it’s cheap well made and fits my sunroof
The basket I wanted was close to 1800 but for my need and pockets the pro works
It’s carried my max traxx and spare tire without hassle I just couldn’t justify the extra money ($1400 ) on something I MIGHT use in the future I bought the pro rack for 400 shipped on the Trd sale last year I think it satisfying for my needs
So flame on boys

Get a real roof rack. Excellent options out there from Prinza, LFD Off Road, Sherpa et al.

A little spray paint is all you need.

I don’t get the hate either myself.

I had an FJ with the same style rack. I kept it on my FJ because I liked the look and think it looks good on the Runner. I dropped in a BajaRack basket that perfected the look and functionality. Used it to haul all kinds of stuff and cheaper than completely replacing the rack.

Different strokes I guess.

I don’t care for the look of the pro basket much, but to me, it looks more at home on the fj vs the 4r. Just the opinion of a stranger on the interwebs, so take that what it’s worth (not much). As long as you guys who run them like them and they fit your needs, who cares what someone else thinks?

I don’t think there is “hate” per se. It was made for an FJ, the design fits an FJ, it looks like a leftover, surplus addon stuck on a 4runner.

It can look better on a 4runner if it has other tubular bar work, without, it looks out of place and well kind of stupid but that doesn’t really matter, if it holds your stuff, that’s what counts

All I’m saying is that nothing comes close in price or build quality and it has heritage behind it as well
I really don’t care about what people think/say ever
If I did I would have never bought my 88 e30 m3 for $3500 or my 88 Porsche turbo S for $2800 because people said why do want an old sports car???
I think I’m fine but just don’t get all the negative rhetoric

People want a "unique" 4runner off the floor and Toyota's trying, I guess. How do you do it with a million(+) sold in the US?

A 10+ year old platform (I have zero issues with that) that Toyota keeps creating more and more trim levels to try to make models more "unique" to fit that bill but with leftover parts or truly minimal (ie cheap) changes, I believe that is where a good bit of the rhetoric comes from. Even Tacoma's did numerous slight body changes over their long generations (more that just a goofy looking front bumper)

I personally think that they could have done better with the whole TRD "Pro" trim to begin with but hell people back then in search of that "unique" started dropping 5-10k over msrp, much respect lost from community and Toyota laughing all the way to the bank.

You should do what I did a month after getting mine: Remove it, sell it, and use the money to put towards buying an actual functional aftermarket rack or your choice. Last I checked the Pro racks we still selling like hotcakes ~$400-500.

Though if you sell it and don't immediately have a replacement, consider getting a delete kit to cover the holes between rack installations.

For such a tall profile, the rack has zero redeeming properties. The internal basket dimensions are very small. Half of the roof space is empty and unusable for storage. Everything fits into it awkwardly. They should have at a minimum included 1-2 extra crossbars to 'fill in' the forward basket space better.
