Simple Drawer System
Hi all,
Latest mod is a simple drawer system that is attached with 4 bolts to the slide out tray in the TE.
It's constructed out of 9-ply baltic birch 1/2" plywood. The slides are full extention 75 lbs. a pair rated. All pcs. are glued and screwed. I contact cemented the carpet on, which I purchased at Family Dollar for 21$....matched perfect.
I also included a 6" deep pocket in front of the drawers, for either my 12guage or AK...but out of sight out of mind, it'll be a nice spot. I just haven't had the time to install the door to cover it, continuous hinge, and velcro straps.
Nothing fancy, just a hell of a lot better than the plastic foot locker I kept back there.....just got tired of digging everytime I needed something.

Nice, but what happens when you are on an upward slope?

Looks very good.
I don't see an option for 1/2" at the link only 5/8". Is 5/8 what you used?
So you ordered the whole box and drawer combo from the company and then cut out the handles area and installed the carpet right?
What are the dimensions of the box / drawer you ordered?
Can you post a picture of your long gun compartment. I'm not sure where it is based on your description. I think you are describing the area just in front of the rear seats.
Also, did you size the box so the rear seats can still recline or are they permanently in the upright position now?
Did you consider trying to elevate the cargo drawer over the stock slider so you could have a tailgate to pull out and sit on. That is my eventual plan. As it is now there is always crap on the slide out and I can never use it because if I do pull it out something falls into the space and it is a pita to get it out to close the slide.....
EDIT: Did you build all this yourself or get them from Barker? The first time I looked at your post there was a big link (AD) for Barker cabinets. I thought you had ordered the drawer boxes from them....

Very nice. The hidden compartment is very clever.

Thanks guys!!
@Mick1...
Yes...I built it myself, to fit the tray and still allow all the seats to work as it should.
I will have a Google Sketch Up file available by PM
I didn't want to elevate it...just nice and simple and it can be undone with 4 easy to reach bolts if need be. I does weigh about 50lb....and I'm sure when it's loaded it's well over 100 lbs. so it's a bit of a trade up for weight over organization, which is a good trade off in my world.
Actually...I probably wouldn't need a door over the long gun area, the seats conceal it when up, but if there down I don't think I want it exposed....did I just contradict myself ?...

Is the slide out tray an option in the 5th Gens ? I wonder if that can be had separately ?
Nice work.

Thank you!
I believe it can be..might even be one floating around the used parts section, I believe a few guys took them out.
I have mine secured now with turnbuckles for safety, but it only takes a few seconds to disconnect it. I really haven't had the need to pull it out, although with my fridge plugged in on the top of the drawers, it would be nice.

TE owner here. I think I've decided that I'm going to do the antman mod and storage system.
The question that I pose to you is if you think it would have been better to remove the rear sliding deck and build your own drawer system on top of the stock slider?
you left the top half to the stock slider and added drawers, what if you had removed the top half and fabricated your own top half? That's my thought.
