Yokohama geolandar g015 vs cooper discoverer at3

Would simply like to get a number of people who prefer Yokohama geolandar g015 over the cooper discoverer at3 or vice versa and why ? Keep in mind the looks as well as longevity , snow traction as well as off road dry traction! Mpg? Road noise? And just over all which is preferred and why?

Looked at both for my next set; pretty even performance wise from what I found, but the Yokos had a reputation for lower mpg and cost more up front.

Edit: pricing about the same today.

I've had the Cooper AT3's. I have the Yokohama Geolandar A/T G015's on the 4Runner.

Snow, rain, on and off-road, and smooth ride, I prefer the Yokohama's.

Both are going to be very similar, so it's kind of splitting hairs here. Both are road oriented ATs from good brands that will offer similar mpg, noise levels (minimal), tread life, and 60k+ mile warranty.

I know this doesn't help, but you may just have to go with the one that you think looks the best because you'll probably just get 50/50 reviews supporting one or the other. I think you'll be happy either way.

I have P285/70/17 yokohamas on currently, and 2 sets ago I had P255/75/17 cooper AT3s (in between was 255/80/17 Toyo AT2s). Why did I pick the yokahamas after having owned the Coopers? Honestly because I wanted to try them, and I got a good rebate, but also because I live in the Seattle metro area and the 4 channels theoretically should do better in the rain. From what I can tell, both are comparable on-road, offroad, and in snow. Both have a silica compound and 3 peak rating. At the end of the day, both are good tires. I shouldn't comment on MPG because they are different sizes. I know this also wasn't too helpful, but it just goes to show how similar they are. Do your research. Maybe it will come down to looks?

Perfect and as far as looks go? Which one you think looks better ? More aggressive ?

Interesting, I haven’t read the lower mpg thing around... that kinda sucks if it’s true.

That’s good to hear... I guess it really is a toss up, the person before you seemed

Be leaning more towards the coopers as MPG and cost was. Factor there... which do you personally think looks better.. ? Is mpg similar?

I think the G015 looks more aggressive than the AT3 4s because the tread is more angular, while the sidewall on the AT3 XLT is definitely pronounced like a duratrac. I'd go G015 if it were down to looks but it's up to you. I think both tires can have white letters if you wanted.

I only saw that in a couple places**; it may have been that they added some equipment or used a different size tire or something to contribute. *shrug*

To be honest, after 02SE's glowing tribute to the tire, I am reevaluating.

**most notably Tirerack reviews

You quoted him a few posts above....perhaps "glowing tribute" was a bit strong, or he's a man of few words. But he has run both and prefers the Yokahamas.

We just put AT3's on our ORP. I'm very happy with them so far- wet traction (PNW) has been awesome. We'll be heading to Mt Hood shortly to test them out in the snow, but I expect them to do great. Very quiet, no MPG loss, no complaints (yet).

4S, stock size 265/70/17. I was planning on on doing 255/75/17, but ending up getting a deal I couldn't pass on with these.
