I misplaced my sensor codes for my winter set on my Land Cruiser so went to discount to program. Using Toyota as the model wouldn't work, but LX570 did.

I wonder if they try GX460 on the newer models if it will work...

This stuff is a PITA.
If I had the time, I would develop simple kits, remove user error...
Find ONE scanner than can do everything, and bundle it with the highest quality sensors KNOWN to work, no questions asked.

I can't believe more places are not doing this.
I see a few on eBay and Amazon, but the reviews on Amazon cast doubt.

At least Toyota is going in the right direction with the learn feature. Tpms.com is a good source. I find that Denso/Pacific cross reference is not always accurate.

Ahh well, I ordered four blank sensors, and a programmer.

IF it does not work out, I will be returning (If nobody wants them here) the TRD rims, awesome Continental snow tires and give the tool to my bud.

Spare Tire TPMS

Can a 5th TPMS sensor be added to a 2020 4Runner TRD Off Road spare tire? Can it then be programmed for the dash display? I would like to do 5 wheel rotation, but am struggling with accommodating TPMS in the spare tire. Even if the dash display doesn't work, it would be nice to rotate the spare and then have it appear on the dash readout.

I can't answer that as my spare shows up on my 2021.
(It came from the dealer at these PSI's)

I went a different route as they seem to be proprietary.
If what I ordered gives me issues, I will sell or return wheels/tires.

The problem seems to be the models and years of the 4Runner. Evidently, different trim levels allowed for the 5th wheel (spare TPMS) and others didn't. The Limited models allowed spare tire sensors some years while the Off Road trim model did not. When I ask the dealer or Discount tire, they don't know if the spare can be added and then read by the ECU.

I wanted to know if a 5th TPMS sensor could be added to the spare and then used in 5 wheel rotation. I understand the ECU can accommodate 8 sensors for two sets of tires for seasonal rotation, but what happens when 5 tires have TPMS sensors and are on the vehicle at the same time? Does the ECU recognize the tire in rotation once it starts moving on the vehicle?

I would appreciate hearing from anyone who has successfully added the TPMS sensor to the spare tire and what the results were.

50# plus on a 43 degree day? That must have been a hard ride.

I actually prefer stiff rides. I like to literally "FEEL" the road, when they are smoooooove...

The Limited models come with a full size matching spare.
I am not sure about other models. Maybe that plays into something?
I can't see why they would use two different clusters to omit or add a 5th wheel.

So let’s say I want to do 4 new tires and a spire tire on the back mount. I would need to buy 5 tpms sensors and after driving them it wouldn’t automatically detect the new tires? I would need to use some kind of software?

Also, if I put on the spare full size tire I would have to do some kind of programming?
